DVD Talk review of 'Mermaid Forest 1- Quest for Death'

I read Don Houston's DVD review of Mermaid Forest 1- Quest for Death at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=16790 and...I have to ask.... what the heck are "spookies"?

"demons, ghouls, and other creepy critters and spookies..."

Are they like "ghosties" or Halloween spooks? How scary are they?! Do I need to worry about them *and* the boogeyman too?

And probably no one except me would crack up over...

"...Butchering a mermaid and consuming her flesh seems like a small price to pay to escape death." And then in your summation: "As food for thought, the concept of mermaids is said to derive from a universal need...". That was funny!

It was a darker show, to be sure, and I think later episodes will have/need less exposition (allowing them to flow better). Most anime released in the States seems colorful and cheerful by comparison but fans of horror might like it too. As far as the ghouls that rise up and try to slay people, your mileage will vary depending on how sensitive you are to such things though. Thanks for reading the review.
