Daimajin new transfer!

Hello,

I'm not sure if anyone has noticed but adv has come out with a new anamorphic transfer of the first daimajin film. I've been tempted to buy it(9.99 best buy) but I'm not sure how good the new transfer is. The first transfer is pretty bad. Has anyone scored the rerelease?

Thanks,
jg

Hello again,

I took a chance and went ahead and bought the release of Daimajin. All I can say is bravo Adv for remastering this awesome samurai/monster film(one of the best). The video is cleaner, sharper and more colorful! It's is enhanced 16X9! The next one in the trilogy will be out next month. Best Buy has it for 9.99!

Cheers,
jg

Just curious, how does the new transfer differ from the one in the Complete Daimajin 3-disc set?

Hey there,

This new transfer just shines compare to first release. It's does'nt look faded anymore or washed out anymore. The colors are more vibrant, the blacks are deep and much sharper! Adv must have done some kind of Mti restoration(criterion) because all nicks, scratches, pops and film ware are cleaned up. I wish I can put up some comparison shots, but I just do not know how to do it. Anyway, I hope this little dvd review helps.

I've never seen this movie. Sounds like good blind buy.

I would imagine ADV finally pulled their heads out and did what they should have done when they put these out the first time, and used the Japanese transfers that were done for the R2 set three years ago or so. I've had that set (with some beautiful packaging, by the way) since then, and I'm glad that fans over here will finally get to see these the way they should be seen. The Japanese discs had interviews and some other stuff as extras; is ADV including any of that on these new discs?

My R2 discs arrived today and they are sweet, sweet, sweet! I purchased that first ADV set and was terribly underwhelmed. Glad to hear that they finally got it right.
