Beastmaster: The Series

I recently purchased all three seasons of Beastmaster from DDD for $24/each. So far it's one of the best investments I've made.

For any of the fans of this Tribune Entertainment series, what I'm about to say won't come as any surprise, but I have discovered that this series is actually quite good.

When I would try to watch this series on the WB or UPN affiliates, I thought the series was a bit silly. I though Tao was a goof ball which brought the series down, but I found that he brought a sense of "brains" behind Dar's "braun", despite his clumsy legs.

I just finished watching Season 1 and I must say that I am quite surprised and pleased at the level of continuity within the series. I mean, these aren't stand-alone episodes where you hit the reset button at the end of every episode, story lines continue from episode to episode, despite any "two-parters".

King Zed, (is it?) is a real treat as an on-going villian. And by the end of Season 1, I had a little bit of sympathy for him based on what Kord was doing.

Can't wait to watch the other two seasons.

Yeah, this one is OK I guess, especially if you're into the camp aspect.

The ADV transfer is stellar, and the jungle/forest locations really shine. The cinematography is pretty nice considering the really low budget.

The writing, well, don't expect much. Starts getting confusing, and the ending, er, I won't say anything.

It's alot of entertainment for a small investment.

Yeah, I thought I'd get this series to go along with the Xena and Hercules sets.

Yeah, ADV usually does a great job in their transfers. Their Andromeda transfers are stellar as well.

Again, yeah, the cinematography was pretty good. The only thing that could have been improved was some of the CG animal effects. There's some blurred effects where the CG was kinda rough.

Yeah, I've heard that. That the first season is generally considered the best, with the last two getting a bit strange if you will.

Yeah, you can't complain. $24 for 22 1.78 anamorphic episodes. Shame the soundtrack is only in 2.0.

How does this compare to the first movie?

The show airs on SciFi everyday but I've never bothered trying to catch it.
