Q: The Day After Tomorrow: SE good blind buy?

A: No! (...in my book this rates as a "VSM', or: Very Silly Movie... but that's just me...)

Watched the movie last night and enjoyed the first 4/5 of the movie, the ending was somewhat slow.

Great rental, might buy when it comes out for $10 used.

I liked it, but I probably won't watch it again. Give it a rent first.

I aree with Iron_Giant: wait for Blockbutser to have a "2 for $20" or "all used DVDs 25% off" sale and then buy it. It's not worth more than 10 bucks to own in my opinion.

rent it. definitly a dumb, poor written Hollywood flick that is only semi- entertaining because of the special effects.

Isn't there another special edition version of it coming out?

...a little dull for my tastes. You tend to not care too much about the characters.

I hope so, it's an outstanding movie, but I have not heard anything.

I didn't see anything mentioned about another version coming out, except for the R2 version.

I doubt a second disc will yield any must-have goodies. Here's how Total DVD describes it ...

Disc Two holds the majority of the extra features and breaks them down into four areas, The Science of Tomorrow, Inside The Day after Tomorrow, Global Watch and City Freeze. Starting with The Science of Tomorrow we are presented with the documentary “Force of Destiny” which runs for 60 minutes. This feature is extremely well produced and covers the compelling stories and myths behind Global warming. Featuring interviews with many respected scientists, the film discusses what we need to do as a planet to change our polluting ways before it is too late. This also includes the politics behind many of the decisions that need to be made to save the planet. Next up is the Inside The Day After Tomorrow section which is split further into three sections, pre-production, production and post production. Starting with pre-production, there are short features on pre-visualisation techniques, storyboarding, production meetings and concept art galleries. The production option plays the 1 hour 9 minute documentary “Filming The Day After Tomorrow” which features extensive behind the scenes footage along with interviews from cast members, again this is well produced and a step above the usual press kit standards. The post production area features a look at scoring the film and a look at the mixing stage of the helicopter crash as well as an interactive sound mixing demo. The main feature in this section is on the visual effects shots and how they were achieved. Rounding of the disc are a interactive Global watch and City Freeze features which involve the user picking a city or country to see how global warming will effect that area in the future, as well as stating when real incidents have occurred in the past.

I'd also put another vote in the rent it first box. Cool special effects but not worth the price. I'm waiting for a 3 for 25 deal and then I might pick it up.

If you really like disaster flicks.....skip it!

I'm having a very hard time getting through it tonight. And I can't even say the video quality is good because it isn't. But it's really loud in some places.

And to think my local Blockbuster had 120 copies of this that were all checked out over the weekend...

I've only seen one movie over the last year that was worse than this one... "Van Helsing". Both scrape the bottom of the barrel.

I don't recommend blind-buys for anything, but I wouldn't even recommend a blind rental on this one.
