How is "Vampire Effect"?
Anyone see or have this DVD? and can tell me how it is as a movie, and as a DVD in general? Thanks.

I don't have "Vampire Effect", but I have the copper box set of "Twins Effect" which is the oridinal release of the same movie. And I must say, as for the movie itself, I have to strongly disagree with the DVD talk review. Its' a pretty bad movie. The fights are few & far bewteen & shot prety poorly. Lot's of zoom in shaky cuts, very much like an American movie. The girls in the movie are terribly annoying, just not very likeable at all. And the movie lacks a strong bad guy. The plot is too flimsy to even matter. And if your seeing it for Jacky Chan, it's also a waste as he only appears in one scene.

i've seen that review and that is how i heard about it, but i was looking for other viewer's opinions...taking a recommendation on one user's opinion, whoever that maybe is pretty narrow minded if you ask me. if i were to purchase on 1 recommend than i would be a whole lot poorer and really limiting myself to one strangers opinion..someone who i don't know from anything. no disrespect, but just having a "reviewer" title doesn't mean the end all be all of knowledge for all that is movies and all that is dvd's. i post a thread such as this (perhaps it is the wrong forum in which i do apologize) to hear many, multiple opinions about 1 thing and than i can take it all in and thus decide for myself ultimately. all in attempt to help me decide but not merely decide for me prior to a purchase. that's all...sessa17 seems to have got my point

I have a DVD of this from HK - it isn't what I would call a great movie, but I didn't dislike it, either - there are some fun moments, and all in all, I'm glad I saw it and have it in my collection. BUT - I paid a lot less ordering it from HK, and apparently it's the complete movie, not an abreviated cut.

Like marty888, I own a copy of the original HK release of the movie, called "Twins Effect."
I personally enjoyed the movie. But I tend to watch HK films knowing to expect the eccentric humor and slapstick comedy that is common in a lot of their films. That's not to say that others won't find it funny, but I think it's definitely an acquired (possibly Asian) taste.
There are a number of fighting sequences and they are decently choreographed, but they just don't look as realistic/good as something Jet Li could have pulled off. Bear in mind the 2 main female leads in this movie are HK pop stars, not martial arts performers who grew up training in Shaolin.
The plot is pretty cliche and method, but this isn't exactly the type of movie that wins awards either. If you're looking for a light romantic comedy (that's probably the closest category) with a number of HK star cameos and a sprinkle of martial arts / special effects, then this is the movie for you.
Oh, and it REALLY helps if you're a fan of "The Twins" to begin with.
Hope that helps.

I really enjoyed the movie, HK version, and I'm tempted to pick up the region 1 version. My daughter really enjoyed the HK version, but the words don't stay on the screen long enough for her, she's 6, and wants the dubbed version so she can understand what's going on. Is the region 1 release the same hacked up version on cable? The way it was edited, really changed some aspects of the story. If it wasn't for my daughter I probably wouldn't consider the region 1 version. BTW, the twins are cute.

...in your previous post you do go on so about ...taking a recommendation on one user's opinion, whoever that maybe is pretty narrow minded if you ask me. if i were to purchase on 1 recommend than i would be a whole lot poorer and really limiting myself to one strangers opinion..someone who i don't know from anything. no disrespect, but just having a "reviewer" title doesn't mean the end all be all of knowledge for all that is movies and all that is dvd's. i post a thread such as this (perhaps it is the wrong forum in which i do apologize) to hear many, multiple opinions about 1 thing and than i can take it all in and thus decide for myself ultimately. all in attempt to help me decide but not merely decide for me prior to a purchase. that's all...
...Q: Are the (re)viewers I linked not also viewers...?...
...Q: Do you know Sesso...?...
...Q: Did I not give you - not many - but in any case several "multiple opinions" to "take in" that would help you to "decide but not merely decide for" you prior to purchase...?...
Q.E.D.

nice one sessa17!
the reviews you posted are just that reviews from Yes! viewers, but obviously they do this on a professional or semi-professional basis and thus have a more critical eye than your AVERAGE viewer!
i want average viewer's opinions/everyday joe's/jane's that do not critique movies and post them on respected/regarded review websites (other casual viewer's like me!) of the movie and that is it...people who have read and posted knew exactly what i meant like Sessa17 and that is that. stop making a federal case and wasting good thread space. (most of this is said lightheartedly, but some of it has an aire of sarcasam that just needs a little biting wit to to get the point across in a little more than carefree way)
anyway, that being said..this post can be closed as i have ordered and is in the shipment process "Twins Effect" 2-disc HK release. It was cheap at $10 USD including shipping and far surpasses the R1 release it seems..so i guess in time i will judge for myself.
Admins close away. See you in another thread Hendrik without the c !!
and thanks for your support Sessa17 without the o!!
