Bruce Almighty - good blind buy?
Somehow, even as all of my friends, co-workers, family, pets, etc. were seeing Bruce Almighty, I never managed to catch it in the theater. With the big DDD coupon, I was considering adding the DVD in as a blind buy, but still can't decide based on the reviews that I've gotten/seen/heard. Though I'd check with you guys . . .
Am I safe?

If you like his other silly roles like Liar Liar then I think you'll like it.
It's very funny and has some unpredictable parts. I bought it as a blind buy and love it.

The Chili Cookoff scene is just so random that I could watch that for about 2 hours and not have it get old.
But if you don't buy it please rent it and give it a chance.

Yeah.....
....if you like crappy movies for over indulgent actors with huge egos.
What irritated me was that 75% of this movie was ego massaging for Jim Carrey, who apparently feels a little hurt that the Majestic and Man on the Moon bombed at theaters. BOO HOO! The whole "dont try to be serious when making people feel good and laugh is what your really good at" message got really tired after, oh, say 3 minutes. I had more respect for Carrey when he tried to experiment with drama, even if he did fall on his face at the box office. Guess hes afraid of losing his $20 million a pic clout. This movie just strains too hard for laughs, an ends up being toothless. For the first time Jim Carrey feels really uncomfortable as a comedian. The only good thing about this movie is Steve Carrel (SP?) of the Daily Show, personally, I'll just wait to see him in Anchorman.
Then again, I liked The Cable Guy.

Hendrik, if it makes you feel better, I bet you could find someone who thought Mega Force was the greatest film ever. Even the crappiest movie is loved by someone, not that The Cable Guy is crappy, but every movie appeals to someone in some way.

I grew tired of the standard Jim Carrey antics really really really fast (catch phrases, funny voices) but a few little bits like the Chilli Cookoff scene were pretty funny.
I'd say rent it, but there are 100 other movies I'd rent first.
