Evil Dead : Book of the Dead <-- good blind buy?

Being that it's close to Halloween, I've been wanting to pick up some good horror DVDs to add to my collection. I've heard alot of people talk about the Evil Dead movies, and how they are the best classic cult horror films. Being that the Book of The Dead has an interesting rubber cover, it may become a collector's item one day. Is this a good blind buy? Is it just cheesy silly fun, or does the film really scare you?

ok, well some people will say they find the first Evil Dead film to have comedic value.......but I don't. This film repeatedly scared the sh*t out of through most of my childhood and I still always watched it whenever I would find it on late night tv. I would say the second film is cheesy silly fun, but I consider the first film to be a genuine horror film with a whole helluva lot of style....oh yeah, and some gore as well. IMO, Evil Dead is a straight horror film, Evil Dead 2 is a comedy/horror film, and Army of Darkness is more of an adventure/action/comedy film. The first film is by far my favorite....I rank them in order 1,2,3 but it seems most people around here would rank them in the other order.

I bought it as a blind buy. I'd say it's worth it if you like horror. It is cheesy in many ways and I don't think it would scare you. The effects and acting just aren't good enough to really scare you. I think it did have some comedic value but it's mostly just straight horror and gore. I find that most movies don't really scare me anymore. To scare me they have to be more realistic situations that I could see myself being in, or be a movie that scared me as a kid like Poltergeist.

I will eventually pick up Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness.

Evil Dead 1 + 2 are pretty much the same movie. Army Of Darkness is set in the mideval times and is much different (but still good). I would get the first one and if you like it go from there.
