Need recommendations for European* action movies

I need good recommendations for slick European action movies... Here's what I mean by European:

- Doesn't have to be Euro-produced or Euro-directed, just set in Europe.
- Doesn't need to be in English
- Can be older

Here I am directly thinking of fare like Ronin, Bourne Identity, The Transporter and (to a small extent) Kiss of the Dragon -- I am not thinking of non-action movies like Crimson Rivers or action films by Europeans (Fifth Element - although that's sci-fi).

Any recommendations?

Leon

It's not set in Europe, but it's a European movie. I don't know if I could classify it as an action movie, either; it has action, but so much more than that. Of course you probably already have this as part of your collection. If not, make sure you get the international director's cut.

Run Lola Run is kinda not European. Its Russian, I think. You should still give it a try.

Run Lola Run is a German film. Tom Twyker is an AMAzING director, although his recent films haven't come nearly as close to the brilliance that 'Lola' embodies.

Well, it may not be quite an action movie, but it's certainly fast moving and clever. 'Nine Queens' is an Argentinian con film which will blow your mind. Trust me ;-)

I just recently saw Femme Fatale and thought it was a pretty good movie. I've never been much of a Rebecca Romijn-Stamos fan, but I am now! Yowzah!

Antonio Banderas is in the movie, too, though. I can't stand that guy.

Day of the Jackal (original) is great. I've always liked that movie.

Not exactly an "action" movie, but definately along the lines of some of the other movies mentioned: The Third Man.

Hopscotch (Walter Matthau)
The Pink Pather Series (great car chases and martial arts)
A Bridge Too Far
Three Musketeers (either 1973 or 1993 version)
Everafter

And another vote for
Bourne Identity and Run Lola Run (same actress)

The German segments in Traffik are very good. The whole show is good, but the German segments stand up to all the nouveau Euro-action movies coming out today.

Gerard Depardieu made a good film in the 80's called Police with Sophie Marceau but I don't know if it's available on American (Reg I) DVD.

More of a caper movie than an action movie, but The Good Thief is pretty entertaining.
