Spiderman: Really that bad?

I just happened to see the last 20mins of Spiderman at my friend's house over the weekend. The movie just completely sucked ass and William Defoe was not at his best either.

Anyone else have a quick summation? I think I'm skipping this for DVD.

I liked it, this is either, i love it or i hate it. Also, I'd wait until the superbit arrives when ever that is.

I really liked it. It captured the essence of the original Lee/Ditko comics much better than I though it would. Stands (IMO) as the best comic -> film adaptation to date.

I really like it too. You should probably watch the whole thing before you make a decision about it. You can't really judge a whole movie by it's last 20 minutes, especially since everything's out of context.

I like it, it's a good film but I wouldn't call it great. Some of the dialogue just plain sucks, but most of it manages to be filled with heart and good character. I would have liked to see a bigger and more challenging good vs. evil struggle also. . . I wouldn't call this a love it or hate it film though. . .there's a big spectrum in between which I know alot of people fall in. Give it a rental, chances are you won't hate it though.

The last 20 minutes of Spider-Man aren't the best by which to judge the film, since they are 90 percent CGI effects and only about 10 percent plot.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who loved the first half of Spider-Man and was disappointed with the second half. But I suppose that's why it made all the millions - because mature audience members loved the character development at the beginning and those looking for cool special effects and action got what they were looking for in the second half of the movie.

Pretty good, but a slow movie. Not the greatest action sequences either.

I thought this one was laughable. Definitely not great, IMO. Just a decent flick with some good CGI/special FX. But honestly, some (or most) of the dialouge is awful, as well as the chemistry between characters.

I liked it. It stuck pretty close to the origin from the comics, and the characters were generally likeable. The guy they picked to play J. Jonah Jameson nailed the character so hard it was scary. Felt sorry for poor Mary Jane though. Seemed like she was constantly getting dumped on, poor kid.

Hey, at least Spidey didn't turn back the Earth at the end.

I disagree. Most I knew thought the film was entertaining but that's about it.

I really loved it. It really captured the spirit of the comic book better than almost any other comic book movie I've ever seen.

Too bad, we all could have gotten the two hours of our lives back.

Skip it, you're not missing anything great - by any stretch of the imagination. Typical cornball superhero save the girl big summer action fare... And a pretty average one at that. Mildly entertaining if you have nothing better to do... My advice, find something better to do...

I thought it looked really bad, but I actually enjoyed it once I watched it. The dialouge could use a little tweaking though. At least it is a decent rental.

Great fun and more heart than 90% of the summer blockbusters out there.

I thought it was very good. It was certainly true to the spirit of the comic IMO. The only thing I really hated was the awful cameo by Macy Gray. I am surprised she didn't have "Buy My Album" tatooed on her face.

Loved the movie in the theater and on DVD.

To each their own.

No it's probably not that bad. But I wouldn't put it in the great category either. For me, the weakest link in the story was Mary Jane. I didn't like her (although she's easy on the eyes), I actually HATED her. You always knew she had something for him since the beginning but she always went with the more popular crowd. It was only at the end when she was vulnerable and THEN she told Petey how she really felt. I'm glad Parker had the good Spidey sense to turn her down. I think he could do better. Maybe that Gwen Stacy.

I really liked the movie, especially being one who grew up with the comics and then living through those dreadful made-for-TV movies with the big silver belt and bracelets for web shooter!

I agree with Jarofclay73 in that Mary Jane was the weak link!

I thought it was a decent movie. Tobey Maguire was a pretty good Peter Parker, but Kirsten Dunst was terribly miscast as Mary Jane Watson. And where was Gwen Stacy?! It was an entertaining movie, but not a great comic book adaptation IMO. Here's hoping the sequel will turn out to be better(although I hear that there still isn't going to be any Gwen Stacy in it).

The dialogue was bad?? Have any of you even read the original Lee/Ditko comics? The dialogue was dead on.

I didn't really care for this one. The first half was okay, but the second half just didn't do it for me. And I thought Kirsten Dunst was absolutely horrible. I fell in love with her in Interview with a Vampire as Claudia, but the Chemistry in this movie was just dreadful. I couldn't take it. I just wanted somebody to punch her in the chops. That horrible half smile in some of the hospital scenes... URGH...

I do own this one and have been thinking about giving it a second spin, but I'd still recommend this one as a rental, unless you are a die hard spidey fan.

You cannot judge ANY movie by watching the last 20 minutes.

That's like buying a car and only looking at the trunk....duh

It was a comic book that was really turned into a movie. Very well done IMO

I think it would have been better to have Macy Gray play one of the villians instead of a singer...."Storm in Da Hood"?
