I don't know if you already knew that, but you can watch "What is and what should never be" in real video, from this set. It is published on aol.

It looks and sound amazing, I can't wait any longer for this set.

I am surprised on how good the video looks for being around 30 + years old and for being in storage bins nearly distroyed. I also can't wait for the set.

Just a related note: at CC next week you can get the Zep DVD and the new 3 CD set (with different live songs) for $30 total. I'm in!!!!!!

And pay 15 more and you'd get "the Song Remains the Same" movie, even though many don't like it.

If you are a diehard Zephead (such as myself and as I can gather from his millions of Zeppelin posts, Rypro) the movie is a necessity. While film is a tad long and the scenes in between performances begin to bore, you can't beat the music (that's what it's all about anyhow).

That said I will probably get the CD/DVD set for my birthday June 8th, if I can wait that long :drool:

Anyone know if the dvd has both the long versions of Dazed and Confused and Whole lot of love.
Its rumored that the 2 disc dvd is a 20 min+ version. And Whole Lot of Love would have a few blue's covers in the middle of the song.

I think so, I saw a tracklisting somewhere and there was about 10 or 15 songs on disc 1 and 5 on disc 2 which led me to believe that these were the longer "jam" versions.

Go to "kashmire" dvd prieview, which kicks major ass especially that their music at the time (79) was not nearly as good as the older stuff, they sound amazing here.

if you go to www.ledzeppelin.com you can listen to 5 tracks from the How The West Was One three cd-set, as well as find all the info you need on the two-disc DVD. the tracks you can preview are the Immigrant Song, Heartbreaker, Black Dog, Over the Hills and Far Away, and the Ocean. you can definately get a feel of what the cd is going to be like - amazing!

i also just saw a couple reviews, they werent user reviews either, for the dvd coming out on amazon.com. dont know if this helps, but definately check out the tunes.

this thing really is as great as you hope it is.

I've only listened to the DTS and considering that this was definitly not their intention when it was first recorded - it sounds AMAZING. The guitar is punchy and travels throughout all the speaker channels. Plant's voice sounds great and it's front and center. JPJ is the anchor and is a constant prsence that surrounds everything. Bonzo's freaking wrecking ball routine is in full force and sounds as if the room is going to collapse all around you.

The performances themselve are a revelation. Miles better than Song Remains The Same - even the Madison Square Garden stuff, which is from the same show, sounds better than that did. The Albert Hall stuff is amazing with great focus on the band. Earl's Court shows them much further along and so freaking tight (though still "sloppy" in their own way). Knebworth (not the best material) is just the cherry on top - tasty and effective. Seeing all this at once, I thought it was intersting to see how much the band phisically aged in such a short time - '70-'79 they all looked like they aged 20 years, easy. Rock & Roll, baby.

The dvd itself is exquisite. The package opens up to two discs and two booklets - one for each disc that has good background info on the performances on the discs. Once you put in a disc, it goes straight to the show - no FBI warning, no WB logo, no menu - just the show. You can switch audio on the fly and if you want to tool around a menu, it's still there, so you can. BTW, the menus are straight forward and classy as hell - they each have really obscure Zeppelin material playing through them, so they're worth checking out.

This is hands-down my favorite music dvd. I may burn a hole in the discs from playing them too much. Even though I just listened to it, I'm still salavating about hearing it again.

My favorite thing about Zeppelin has always been that their music had major balls - nowhere are these balls more evident than on this dvd.

Picked up the double disc and am about half way through the first in dts and all I can say is WOW! Sounds like it was recorded yesterday. Simply incredible, do yourself a favor and don't miss this.

Agreed! Bonham literally sounds like he's setting off dynamite in your living room. I'm astounded at how good the audio/video quality is on this set. The live CD is equally good. I must have listened to "Immigrant Song" about 7 times driving home from Circuit City today. The whole band is just ON! I will be enjoying these two releases for years to come. This is one of the best packages I've owned. Even paying full price for this is worth it. Get the bargain deals while you can. I've heard many Circuit CIty stores are running out of stock.

I have to agree with everyone else, this is one of the best releases of the year to date... A/V quality is excellent, performances are excellent, etc... Pick it up if you can find it. My local Best Buy, Wally World and Target were completely sold out. Didn't even bother checking Circuit City... I found one of the last two copies at Suncoast - of all places - for $18.something...

on my 2 disc dvd set, on both discs when inserted in the player it immediately starts the first song in the pcm stereo track and I had to go back to main page to select the dts audio track.

also on disc 2 after the earls court set instead of continuing with the knebworth set it started playing the extra material (them landing at the airport etc.) I had to go back to main page and select the knebworth set.

This is on a sony player, anyone else have this happen?

Both discs are supposed to start with footage right away... if you want the menu, hit the menu button. Cool thing about these DVDs, you CAN change audio tracks on the fly... just hit the audio button.

This is what Led Zeppelin is about, and it is very surprising that none of this stuff had come out before. The performances are superior to anything I've seen in rock music.

The only problem I had with the double DVD set is the fantasy sequences. Only this time, the fantasies are worst. Shot recently on video, we see the middle-aged Robert Plant dressed as a milkman buying some flowers in a flower shop during Kashmir. These guys never learn. Just kidding.

I agree with everyone else, the A/V is astonishing, especially the audio. It is amazing what has been done with so little material, most of it in bogus condidtion.

Just one word for those of you who haven't seen it yet: The Royal Albert Hall show is rightly praised; it unleashes Zep's early material powerfully. BUT, forget about the winos who tell you only the first show is worth buying the set. DVD 2 will "send you to the foyer" as well. A very cool assemblage over the exhilarating Immigrant Song precedes the "Song Remains the Same" outtakes. These are, surprisingly, quite good. The sound quality is improved over The Song Remains The Same original DVD and these performances are relevant in the evolution of the group. The highlight is The Ocean. Why they had left this out of the original movie is beyond me.

The last two concerts, even though shot on video, are very exciting. The accoustic songs are marvellous. And then....BANG! Full blown electric versions of In my Time of Dying, Trampled Underfoot, two of my personnal favourites delivred here with raw intensity, and amazing improvisationnal interplay. Bonham on these tracks is amazing. At first, he seems very calm, almost not there but very soon he litterally explodes. This man was bigger than life.

At last, the Knebworth show is amazing. This is the last time Zeppelin played together live, and the performance is at the hauteur of the band's carreer. Achilles Last Stand and Kashmir are amazing interpretations.

The sound quality never ceased to impress me throughout. I mostly listened to the DTS track, and on some key moments to the other two tracks to compare.

The 48k PCM track is not to be underestimated. Even if not a surround mix, this track has a remarquable clarity and presence.

Comparatively, the two discrete surround tracks sound very good and the way the instruments fill the room is very appropriate and effective. Like some said above, Bonzo's drum kit is right there in your living room thundering the ***** out of you.

Speaking of Bonham, there is an extra on the second DVD in which Jon Bonham is interviewed. This is hilarious because I never heard him speak. I always perceived him as some sort of animal. In that interview, he speaks of Led Zep III with elegance.

This is by far the most incredible musical DVD I've seen yet.

At the layer change on disc 2, it freezes goes black, for a few seconds, and starts over again.
Also for those interested, the msg footage is non anamorphic.

Not had chance to check my discs out yet fully....when does the layer change occur?

I think it was before in my time of dying on disc 2.
