I've got to buy this and the "How the West Was Won" 3 CD live compilation. I am such a huge Led Zeppelin fan. I'm so psyched that the band had finally returned to the mainstream!!!!

Started listening to disc one last night. Like everyone else has mentioned the sound and audio are outstanding!!.

Bonham sounds like a man possessed on drums and don`t even get me started on Paige's guitar licks!! Frreakin crystal clear!!

I love the menu screens with backstage footage in the background..

This is a set that anyone who is marginally interested in classic rock n roll music will want to own

Whomever put this together should get some kind of award imo so get out those ear plugs crank up the speakers and take a wild trip back to the 70`s

I thought Knebworth was the last time the band played live in the UK...didn't they go on to do some dates in Europe after the festival, and then Bonham passed away the following year?

They toured Europe in the summer of 1980. Played a few dozen shows IIRC, many of which are available on high quality bootlegs taken from the soundboard tapes. Bonzo passed away in September of that year while the band was rehearsing for a US tour.

Just got it today. It's ****ing amazing. The sound is crystal clear, the performances tight and the video as clean as could be. Excellent stuff, far exceeds my expectations.

Dolby Digital sound issue
 

Yesterday I got this DVD. I was watching disc 1 and the sound with dolby digial selected had noise coming from the center speaker. When I select PCM it sounds great. This is the only disc that has this noise on it. Is this supposed to sounds this way due the the recording or is this disc bad?

No noise in my center channel, in fact it is really the least active channel. I had to stand right in front of it to hear a trace of activity. However the front and rears are on fire!

I put on some more dvd's to make sure a center channel wire hadn't come loose or something but it was normal with other discs with active center channels.

I just got another copy and it does the same thing. I have checked other discs and the center speaker is fine. The noise starts on White Summer and is there until the end. Again this is only with DD selected. Is there anyone that has had this happen?

Yes, unfortunately, I also found out that the Dolby Digital 5.1 track features some noise.

It is very clear at the beginning of "Bring it home", the last song on the first disc. Every time Plant plays the harmonica, there is some noise there in the front channel.

The DTS 5.1 and PCM track are crystal perfect throughout though. So it surely is not linked to original sound recordings. Wonder what went wrong on the DD 5.1 track.

Sorry, I forgot to mention in my earlier post that I have listened only to the dts version.

I've also noticed the noise... oh well, DTS it is I guess with this one.

Some favorite moments:
1. Bonham storming out of the gate on "We're Gonna Groove" on disc one. The room feels like it's going to explode.
2. Page's solo on "White Summer", I never realized how raga influenced that tune is.
3. Bonham's ridiculously cool "Moby Dick"
4. The slow-down of "What Is and What..." on disc one, it just completely changes the mood of the show.
5. The acoustic "Going to California" from Earl's Court, always one of my favorite Zep tunes, and it's given a great rendition here.
6. Page ripping **** up on the slide guitar during "In my Time of Dying" while Bonham pushes the pace. IMO, this is the best track on the entire compilation.
7. JPJ's bass during the entire two discs. It's too bad it's mixed so low and the camera pays so little attention to him, he's doing some incredible stuff. He's also a damn good mandolin player.
8. "Achille's Last Stand" from Knebworth. Damn do they look old and wasted, but this is one epic track. JPJ's bass work is incredible and drives the entire track. Check out his unbelievable speed.

General lows:
1. Plant holding his right hand up with his fingers pursed constantly like a fine thespian AC-TOR reciting Shakespeare. That guy is so friggen pretentious and pompous, but he's a damn good blues singer.
2. Page's slight sloppyness on every track. He's really going for it (and I know it's somewhat of a hallmark for his playing), but he misses a lot of notes and botches some solos. Hendrix was also pretty wild during his solos, but he rarely missed as many notes as Page does.
3. The total lack of coverage on JPJ. He's probably the most advanced musician in the band and really pushed them to experiment. The coverage he's given is somewhat of a sham, he's always in the background, out of focus.

It seemed like JPJ served as the extra guitar part durring Jimmy's solos.

For the person who mentioned heartbreaker on one of the menus being bootleg footage from msg. Isn't heartbreaker on "the song remains the same"?

True dat... And he still plays well... I caught the JPJ band opening for King Crimson a few years back and they weren't bad at all...

And, yeah, Page has always been sloppy as hell when it comes to his solos... A lot of penatonic noodling and misfires but that's a subject for another thread... ;)

The way my ears hear it, the solo "slopieness" sounds natural as a part of the song.

Rypro, it is, and Page's work fits in damn_well in the structure of Zeppelin's music... Just sayin', from a technical standpoint, that he's always been a little sloppy in the lead department. Not that that's a bad thing, not at all, but JP - while being a very fine rock guitarist - is not one who I would personally consider to be a technical genius... It's just his style to approach the leads with "reckless abandon" for lack of a better term, no harm in that.

Edit - Again... Great DVD, one of the best so far this year, I place it right behind Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas CC as the early leaders in DVD of 2003.

With bhd de, t2 ee, indy, lotr ttt ee and possibly alien quadillogy coming out this year, it will be hard to do Littlefuzzy's top 100 dvd's of all time list.

I noticed that Page was really sloppy on "rock an roll" on the 3 disc cd. the main reason imo, is because he tried to do both guitar parts, and it really didn't sound too hot. Anyone know why they didn't hire a guitar playing for the tours to make everything flesh out for live shows. And imo, i think Jones is cut out, because, when we do see him, he mainly just stands there and plays. I mean, he's damn tallented and all that, but he looks like he's bored out of his mind while everyone else has incredable energy throughout the entire dvd. Jones, does however show alot of energy on the keyboards.

One question though, when he is on keys, who is the bass player? Or is he playing bass on the keys, an excellent set, I've watched this several times, and my favorite performances are
moby dick (amazing how Bonham could go 20 min non stop and not get tired and still be able to do the entire show.

the Ocean (what was indeed so "raunchy" about Plants moements, I thought I heard something about it being very raunchy performance)\

Stairway (the solo is amazing and is the best version of the song availible)
the only low was Rock and Roll on the dvd. Plant can't get close to the high notes and kind of stuggles to hit them. But the band was still strong even in that time.
