Dead Presidents
I saw this movie a few years back and I loved it. Now that I've started a nice DVD collection I'd like to know if it's a good buy? I did some searching on DVD basen and it looks to be a barebones DVD. Is the picture anamorphic, and is the sound good? Even if it's barebones I may want to get it. Anyone have this DVD, or have any thoughts about the film?
thanks!

I just bought the DVD. Excellent excellent movie and the picture and sound are very good. No extras though, which is sad. A commentary would be great. I'm not sure they are making a SE ever for this film so I went ahead and bought it before it goes OOP or something.

They have got to make a SE of this. If you look at the Criterion laserdisc it has a ton of supplements:
Commentary by the Hughes Brothers, Dr. Todd Boyd, cinematographer Lisa Rinzler, stars Larenz Tate and Keith David, and Ari Merretazon
Deleted scenes
Theatrical trailer
Electronic press kit, including a promotional featurette
Storyboards
Costume slides
Set designs
Behind-the-scenes footage
Sketches
Dr. Boyd's guide to "Blaxploitation" films
An epilogue to the story: The real Anthony, Ari Merretazon today

I saw this again the other night and it's really a great film. I sure wish there was an SE but the barebones disc will have to do. It has definitely earned its spot in my (very picky) library. Picture and sound quality are very good, although it's not anamorphic

Wow agent2099 I just watched this movie this past weekend and thought that this movie truly deserves an SE edition. I would like to see some of the material mentions on the Laser Disc version.

<----Another fan of the movie.
I'd also love to see an SE of this, but If you've heard the Hughes Brothers' comments on "Independent Focus" or on the From Hell extras, they've often stated that they're not fans of the final cut of what was Dead Presidents.
But who knows. Maybe if the Hughes outshine themselves on their next project (From Hell did make a bit of dough afterall) then maybe there could be some lobbying for an SE...But I would bet that their 1st film, Menace II Society would recieve that treatment.
But could you imagine a Vista Series for Dead Presidents?

So the Criterion LD has even more violence? Wow, that's amazing because I thought the theatrical version had plenty, especially while in Vietnam. I like my current Dead Presidents DVD, but I sure hope they re-release it and add some extras and make the picture anamorphic.
