Didn't care for it, but as you may have heard: terrific opening sequence. (Gorehounds would especially appreciate it.)

The disc is nice, the extras are okay. For a more thorough look at the film and the DVD, here's our review - http://filmfreakcentral.net/dvdreviews/ghostship.htm

I saw it in the cheap theatre couple of months ago and liked it. But if I were you I would rent it first. It is not bad, but not fantastic either.

I don't know why so many people bash this film? Sure, GHOST SHIP isn't the best horror flick out there, but it's largely entertaining. The film's slick production design, engaging cinematography and well executed atmospherics are certainly worth the price of admission. It's a well conceived ghost story
with genuine scares, characters that you care about, and some pretty creepy visual effects. The plot has some holes in it, but so what. For the most part the film works really well. I will go so far as to say that it's Dark Castle's best effort to date. I can't wait to see what they are cooking up for next Halloween...

The opening is one of the best I've seen in a movie in a long time. I enjoyed the movie, I'll probably watch it again. If you enjoyed the remakes of House on Haunted Hill and 13 Ghosts then there's a good chance you'll like this as it's made by the same people and they share a common style between them. Of the three, Ghost Ship is probably the weakest though, mainly due to the situation. Keeping this spoiler free, let's just say there are certain events that must happen in the film to make it scary, and once you realize this you just sit there watching, waiting for them to happen.

For the most part the cast is the same swappable cast you find in these movies. I had higher hopes because of Gabriel Byrne, but his performance is fairly lackluster and it's like he's sleep walking thru the movie. Still, it is a competent performance at the very least and that's all you really need for this type of movie anyways.

I saw it last weekend and it was another typical hollywood horror flick. I agreed, the opening scene was terrific but that's about it. I think, the villian's motive was pretty lame. I couldn't believe they decided to go that route. Once you see it, you will understand by what I mean. I do not want to ruin the movie for anyone.

Watching a running clothes dryer for an hour and a half would have been more exciting than that pile of useless crap.

The reason i liked ghost ship was the fact no teenagers were in it. every horror flick in the last five years were full of teenagers or 30 year old teenagers that can't act. movies are scarier when there are characters in it that you care about. I'll take ghost ship over scream 2&3 and the god awful I know what you did last summer movies.

HMMM Was it an excellent movie, maybe not, but I enjoyed the movie a lot. Part of it you kind of knew what to expect, but for the most part it was full of surprise, the opening and closing scenes both come to mind without saying why. The pace and mood of the movie were right on although the sound could have been a little more aggressive. Bought it being a little skeptical of some bad knocks. Not disappointed in the least. Is it an all time great, not really, but it still had some good attributes and was a nice change from the typical horror movies of late!

May contain some MINOR spoilers.

My friend dragged me to this in theatres (it was her birthday, so she used that to get her way). The whole time on the way I wined about not wantting to see this movie (It looked predictable, Marguiles [or however the hell you spell her name] is a second rate actress who only got anywhere because of ER, the director's past movie were very mediocre, etc.). Well, we watched the movie and afterwords my friend turned to me and said "That had to be one of the worst piles of &*^% I have ever seen." This perfectly summed up how I felt about it as well. Yes the opening was cool. However Marguiles (or whatever) proved she couldn't act or sustain a feature. If you couldn't tell the villainjust by his NAME, then you never paid attention in any literature class that involved mythology (or you haven't seen stuff like CLASH OF THE TITANS enough). The supporting cast was utterly wasted (despite the inclusion of some actual GREAT actors).

BIgger Spoiler, but kept as non-specific as possible

Finally it is the more or less greedy decisions made by the hero that get everyone else killed, yet in the end the hero is spared for having not sinned, wtf is that about? After all, when everyone else want to leave the boat, it is the hero that makes them stay in order to get the salvage.

I will agree with some peoples opinion of the opening scene... GOOD !!!
BUT, the movie as a whole.... I would NEVER insult the rest of my collection by including this piece of C.R.A.P. in it.!!

I bought this bit of flotsam as a blind buy and should have allowed someone else to rent it for me.

Visually, the picture looks really good but the whole explanation of the whys and hows really sucked monkey turds.

This film Had a lot of promise but ultimately it let me down. I had fairly decent expectations from the trailer and was truly surprised at how really awful this film is.

Wait for the Saturday night HBO debut.
