Unfortunately, I fear it is not a joke. It is, however, quite joke-worthy. As one ridiculous example, Gollum's nudity in LoTR:TT is criticized and contributes (along with all that pointless violence) to TT's average W.I.S.D.O.M. rating (that's not a joke either).

I bought this as a wife appeasement title ...figured we'd watch it and then get to my movie ...Below. I was pleasantly surprised. I really liked it!
It's depressing, yes. Michelle Pfeiffer was fantastic! So was Renee Zellweger, Robin Wright Penn and Alison Lohman.
The DVD looked and sounded very, very good, the usual Warner Bros. treatment 1.85:1 Dolby Digital 5.1 English and French...deleted scenes, two parallel "making ofs", director, Peter Kosminsky and author, Janet Fitch commentary and trailer. That's all.
Sheryl Crow's "Safe And Sound" would've made a nice video to be included.
If you advocate OAR, beware as there were two versions released, P&S and Widescreen!
I'm getting the book.

Beautifully shot and acted adaptation of Janet Finch's novel.
The DVD is nice with a couple making of featurettes and deleted scenes. The commentary also features the author (kind of rare)
The acting by the four female leads is outstanding especially Lohman and Pfeiffer. I highly recommend this underlooked film.

I saw it at the movies (my wife's pick). I totally whined about going, but it turned out to be pretty good.
Agree that the female "leads" were all excellent. I've never seen Michelle Pfeiffer play anyone that
before.
