Is Sweet Home Alabama a good blind buy?

It looks really funny from the commercials. Also heard that it is really good.

It looks lame. It got horrible reviews when it came out but if you want a date flick, go right ahead with it.
btw, wrong forum, all "blind buy" threads go here http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?forumid=8

I've never seen this movie before, but, of course, it's one of the best blind buys ever.

I am so damn sick of all of these "blind buy" F'n threads. I HATE the term "blind buy". And give me a break with asking about Sweet Home Alabama, it's not F'n high art, it's a typical friggin romantic comedy, rich girl goes back to her small home town. What more do you need to know? And what is wrong w/ all these people asking about blind buy movies, S.H.A. isn't a small independant movie, you don't know ONE F'n person that saw this movie, you have to post & get the opinions of anonomous strangers to decide if you should buy a movie.

I'm sorry for the rant, but this blind buy stuff is out of hand. I did not attack anyone, or use profanity so please don't delete this post.

So, I guess you are saying it is not a good blind buy?
Would I be better off waiting for Maid In Manhatten? Would that be a good blind buy?

Some of you people should chill out. Who gives a crap if this guy knows anyone else to ask or not, he asked here. News flash, that is what messageboards are mainly used for, getting and giving information and opinons.
You know what I hate, dumbasses who come into a thread that is clearly marked in the subject what it is about and complain. If you hate these threads ignore them, jerky. Quit wasting my time looking in the thread for people with something to say, reading your drivel. pfft.

Tough crowd... Basically if we followed this way of thinking the entire DVD board would have about 20 threads. I have a much bigger problem with the "do a search" police who seem to be growing in number. Let people post what they want......

As far as the flick in question, it's pure rental material....

I second that, Oatsdad. I rented it for my wife and it was, as she put it, "Hokey." Save your money or at least rent it first.

I would say it is not a good "blind buy" simply because a HATE cheesy Hollywood-maintream-corporate romantic comedies.

If you like romantic comedies, Sweet Home Alabama is a fairly decent one. As someone has indicated, its not high art. But I was all prepared to not like it when my 12 year old daughter rented it, but I did.

As for Notting Hill, I liked it also - though I'll watch anything with Julia Roberts in it!

Bleaker....since you really have not had much help from people here...here are my thoughts.

This was a blind buy for me.....watched it last night and loved it!!! At least rent it and see for yourself.....not sure what people in this thread are talking about in relation to bad reviews. Review on this board recommended this title as did Ebert and Roeper with their

If you like Reese Witherspoon as much as I do(fav movie is Man in the Moon), buy this movie.

My wife loved the movie and so did I. A very good (Not Great, My Big Fat Greek Wedding is a Great date movie) date movie.

My neighbors (married couple) across the street loved it.

A married man with 3 daughters stopped by and watched the last 20 minutes and he liked and is going to rent the movie.

So, if you like these kinds of movies and if you are married (if you wife likes these kinds of movies), then this is an awesome buy.

Funny that someone can not call this "High Art" and use curse words left and right. When I, my wife or most of my watch "High Art" films we all fall asleep. It looks like "High Art" people love to put others down in their taste of flims (if it does agree to their high standards) and use **** words make us "Low Art" backwoods people feel like stupid fools.

Well Sessa17, I really hope you have a better day today and that nobody else post any more "Blind Buy" threads.

Give us your list of high art films.....

And yes you did use profanity. Just because you abbreviate profanity does not mean you did not use it. And remember that we all have varying opinions on what movie is good and what movie is not. So...in your opinion...what are some high art films???

I do not mind these threads....the mods obviously do not mind them either.

I think a "blind buy" is almost without exception a BAD buy.
I cannot remember buying any movies without having seen them first. But, I'm cheap and If I buy something I can't return, I have to know I want it (or be sure to buy shrink-wrap also!).

A blind buy is not a bad buy in my opinion.....I rarely get to the movies anymore so most of my purchases(of new movies) are blind buys. If I do not like the movie....I sell it on ebay and usually wind up losing no more than what it would have cost me to rent the thing in the first place.
