Unbearable lightness of being, Criterion

I can only find the English soundtrack on this Criterion DVD. I thought the movie was originally shot in Romanian. Where is the original language soundtrack?

Haven't seen it, but doesn't it star Daniel Day-Lewis? I don't think he speaks Romanian. Are there even any Romanian actors in it?

P.S. - Why isn't K-19 Widowmaker not in Russian, I mean it's about the Russians.

I just realized the film is set in Czek. I thought this is a foreign film, not a U.S. film. That's why I thought its original language track should be a foreign language.

I just got it, haven't really watched it. DDD has it for about $18, pretty good deal for a criterion.

First off, the original soundtrack is not Romanian. For sure!!

Second of all the edition that MGM put on the market has a better transfer (this has already been covered here).

Third, this is " A classic" in my book and I am sure in many others as well. The movie was banned in many Eastern European countries because of the political reality that was depicetd (as far as the Eastern block was concerned).

Fourth, it has the BEAUTIFUL J.Binoche and Lena Olin.

To sum up: A GREAT, GREAT movie. One of Binoche's best performances (as well as D.Lewis). But again, the MGM version is much better. I ended up selling the Criterion....the difference was obvious!!

Why is the MGM version better? I'm sorry but I must have missed that thread.

The transfer is much cleaner and the numerous picture flaws on the Criterion edition are not present on this one. However, with this said you should not expect a picture-perfect looking disc given the poor condition of the original master they used.

You might want to do d search on the both versions-Criterion and MGM so you could determine for yourself what you should buy.

This movie is one of those cases where MGM simply some extra effort as far as the picture goes. Look around for the reviews I mentioned above. Also, the thread that I mentioned to you right here on the pages of DVDTALK was quite recent (no more than 3 months I would say).
