My take, something is lost when real places and real people are replaced with blue backgrounds. Some emotion is invariably lost when actors/actresses have to imagine reactions to these computer generated places/things that in reality do not exist. Their reactions seem wooden and lack certain credibility.
I guess this has always been the way acting has been done through the ages, with each age demanding the birth of a new set of actors/actresses that can adapt to new techniques. I guess this new crop of actors/actresses are not born yet.
CGIs are great for battle scenes, but something is really amiss when it comes down to the very human interplays that is really the foundation of any great movie.
George Lucas lost that human touch he once had, and became lost in his own gadgetry. It is not grand spectacles that make a movie a masterpiece of the ages, for these material elements only add to the grandeur inspired by the very human interplays portrayed by a movie's actors.
