Review plz: Y tu Mama Tambien

Before purchasing this DVD, I would like some feedback on it. I have not yet seen this movie, but my friends tell me it is one of the best out this year.

I would deffinetely recomend this movie to most people of course it is very explicit and is subtitled(unless you know spanish) i think its one of the best this year. the dvd is pretty good to. commentary, deleted scenes...just make sure you get the unrated version and not the R rated

Anyone know what the difference is between the R and unrated version?

Just curious. Got the unrated version.

Wonder what they cut out?

Just appreciate the unrated version. This is an excellent film, one of my top 3 for this year.

I highly suggest the unrated version. I got to preview the R rated and it was very disappointing. The R rated has NO special features and contains an edited version of the film (the unrated is the film the way it is supposed to be, a little different than usual, I know). The unrated contains a variety of special features.

Even with my severely limited Spanish vocabulary I could tell that the subtitles were not accurately reflecting what was actually being said.

I was very disappointed in this movie, but I blame that on the editing and am hoping to see it again the way it was MEANT to be on the unrated disc.

Just watched my unrated version.

Enjoyed the movie.

Still curious though what was edited out of the R-rated version. Some scenes were sort of explicit.

Very good movie. I'd recommend it picking the unrated version up.

Just finished watching this;
Great movie! I really enjoyed it, but for those who can't deal with sexuality deal with in a very frank way, don't watch this. The two friends were portrayed in a very real and genuine way and the outcome of the film doesn't disappoint.
The subtitles do leave something to be desired though. Most of the times, it was pretty good, but those times where they skipped lines of dialogue was really sad. But, that really isn't the directors fault. The commentary is pretty hialirious, if pretty difficult to follow. I know spanish pretty well, but dayum was I lost with the slang the actors were using during the commentary. What I did know, and used to use myself, I thought was really hilarious.
Anyhow, highly recommended.

For those of us that are interested in the shallow, how would you rate this movie for erotic content? Nudity? 3-some? or is it a running verbal seduction that just comes close to (but not quite) satisfying? I don't want to sit through a Spanish movie with subtitles if there's no payoff.

Rated v Unrated

If you want to see this film, buy the unrated version. Do not buy the rated version because this is not the film.

Not trying to turn this into a porn discussion, but the R-Rated version actually has very little sexual content. More male nudity than female, implied self-gratification, but mostly dialogue. Not sure about the unrated, but the R version is a major disappointment as far as even being a good movie.

Complete Review

This is a great movie and a great dvd (for a foreign film). So far Mexican DVDs have been really good (Amores Perros and now this). Y tu mama tambien (the Unrated Version) comes with a hilarious short movie, deleted scene (which the movie claim to be "racy" they were really no-big-deal in comparison to the movie), commentary. You also have the obvious subtitiles or you can dub the movie (if u WANT to destroy art). I would def recommend picking this up, search it in the DVD Bargain Forum for some good deals (I got it at Costco for 16.99 )

i've heard that the commentary on this disc is NOT subtitled, which of course renders it useless for those who cannot speak spanish. is anyone else as outraged as i am about this? is there anything that can be done about it other than complain at http://www.mgm.com/help.do, which probably wont have much effect? anyone hear of a corrected version? its just very very frustrating, since id really like to buy this disk...

So you would want the commentary subtitles to run below the dialogue subtitles? That would sure be a lot of text to read.

Yes, it would, which is why subtitles just for the commentary would be nice. We don't need BOTH, but it'd be useful for folks to understand what the participants said...

See this thread, which is located in the Mature forum:

(again, don't click on the following link unless you want to end up in the mature forum, 18 and older only of course):

For those who have seen the R-rated version, (spoilers):
Spoiler:
Did the two guys kiss at the end? ~ 10 or 15 seconds, or less? Did they wake up next to each other?

As for the commentary, it isn't just a matter of understanding Spanish, there is a lot of very low class, probably regional, slang in it.

It's not Spanish, it's Mexican There are MANY different dialects in Central and South America. Some things that are even perfectly innocent in Venezuela are bad words in other countries (the name of a Venezuelan fruit is a bad sexual word in Mexico).

I speak Spanish and I had no clue what they were saying 75% of the time. I used the subtitles to understand what was going on. (I'm Hispanic, Spanish is my first language).
