Reviews Wanted: Hoosiers

I have the original release of this movie, which has since been rereleased by MGM.
Since it's still not anamorphic, I'm guessing they didn't do anything with the video. Which in this case, is decent, but not going to win any awards.
The new version is 5.1 DD. Mine is 2.0 and it sounded a little weak at times, but not so bad that it distracted from the movie. DVDFile didn't like the new audio transfer. I haven't heard it and can't comment.
Only extra is the trailer. It also has the 4:3 full frame version on side two.
Having said all that, if you like sports movies, BUY THIS MOVIE! This, after the Natural, is my favorite sports film.
I believe it's modeled on a true story. It's the story of a small town basketball team that manages to win the state championship. It's about overcoming seemingly impossible odds, not only for the team, but for the cast's principle actors, excellently portrayed by Gene Hackman, Dennis Hopper (in what I think is his best performance ever) and Barbara Hershey. The boys who make up the team and the rest of the supporting cast all do a wonderful job too.
Can't recommend this highly enough, even if you don't know anything about basketball.

DVD Talk Limited Edition
I bought the DVD for $9.99 at Best Buy and gave it to my kids so they could give it to me for Christmas.
This is one of my all time favorite movies.
Very simple movie, but it really works.
The video looked fine on my 27 inch TV(much better than my VHS copy).
Buy it if you like Hackman or Sports.

Here are a couple of sites which talk about Milan, the town / team on which the movie Hoosiers was based:
http://www.ripleycountytourism.com/54museum.html
http://www.milan.k12.in.us/1954.htm
If you want to see more, just do a search on Google for:
Milan 1954 basketball
you will see quite a bit.

Hollywood always changes the story, but I still love it.

This is the only movie I would upgrade to an SE.
SE Feature:
1. Enhanced Video
2. The real background of the team
3. Video or Audio of the games they play(and championship game)
4. Interviews with the real players
5. Making off
6. Interviews with the actors(where are they now...)
7. How to play basketball as a team

There was a small town near where I grew up that used the same strategy, they would stall pretty much the whole game and take only sure shots. They won quite a bit, but those games were not too exciting to watch (other than the anticipation on when they would actually shoot). They won quite a few games with the stalling strategy.
