Review Request: The Pillow Book

What's the transfer like on Columbia's DVD of Peter Greenaway's "The Pillow Book"?

...transfer is probably as good as we're going to get... interesting film!
...plus: you get to see Ewan McGregor utterly nekkid, yes!

Couple of things. The transfer seems a little soft and/or grainy in places. I'm assuming that this is likely an artistic choice, as Columbia has traditionally delivered good transfers.

The film also appears to be presented in a full frame aspect ratio (and as such is not 16:9 enhanced), though it's usually been described as being in multiple ratios. Not really sure how this film would've looked in a theatre.
