Review wanted: THE SIMPSONS: COMPLETE FIRST SEASON
When you get this 3 disc set (and I know you lucky Target shoppers have!), please post your thoughts of it,
including Groening's commentary, the scripts, the pencil tests, etc.
PLUS
I wouldn't mind any links to any online reviews on this DVD either.

overall the season I kicks A$$.......
the sound is great, and the picture as good as it can be for season I.
i do have a few complaints, the menus are kinda plain (i can deal with that), but the biggest problem is, sometimes there is real bad mpeg artifacting where the whole screen messes up. (this is totally obvious at the end of episode 3 "Homer's Odyssey" , in fact the end credits won't even finish playing for me, it just freezes....anyone else notice this, is it my player? is it the disc? or is it all the discs? i saw something about this on one of the reviews above.
anyway, i am still psyched to have this set....bring on seasons II, III, etc!!!!

wow, this is beginning to annoy me.......new problem, and a big one:
when i try to play chapter 4 of disc 1, "Theres no disgrace like home" my player completely freezes, i have to open the disc tray and reclose it....i cannot play the episode at all.......even using the chapter selection it freezes.....
i have a TOSHIBA SD1200 player......
i hope fox did their testing of the compatibility of the disc....

toshiba and sony players make up a great majority of all the dvd players out there, (at least from what i have seen)....there should not be these compatibility problems at this point in time.........i am a little pissed off. and its not my discs, this is happening to a lot of people on different players.
out of the 40 discs i now own, this is the first one to ever give me a problem.....i hope later seasons are better.

The biggest problem I have with this series is the fact that there isn't a way to play the episodes in order. You have to navigate through the menus and select the next episode after one has finished. I actually can't believe this slipped by their quality control people....d'oh!!

It's not laziness....I like to fall asleep with stuff like this on a sleep timer (my fiance needs to have noise on to fall asleep for some reason), and with only 20 minutes and no next episode automatically playing it just can't work. The powerpuff girls dvds work well for this though.

I have the Disc 1 Episode 4 major problems on my Panasonic RP91 (3 months old). Pixelization, momentary freezes, then finally complete lock up. Similar problems on my DVD-ROM drive.
Mine came from Amazon.com.
Looks like there were a lot of bad discs pressed.

Doh!
I've only watched ep 1 so far and it was fine. If mine is a bad set I'm screwed since I got it from order box and I have a feeling returning to them ain't happening.

I'm pretty sure it's player specific. I've watched the entire set on my old JVC 701 with no problems at all.
Strange that newer players are having trouble.

Exactly why I went with Onkyo.
300+ dvds played, never a single freeze, lockup or problem whatsoever.
I agree with whoever said there should be a way to play the episodes nonstop, but whaddya gonna do?? Its a great 3 disc set. If youre a Simpsons fan, just go get it. Its a must have.
BTW, I just found this forum, so hello to one and all. This place is just what Ive been looking for.

From: Sold all 246 dvds...owner of 3 now
Over the past 3 days I watched all 3 discs on my Sony with NO problems.
Loved the series and I even remembered some of the episodes like it was yesterday. Picture was nice & the sound was through my tv
Glad I got this set. Can't wait for the rest of them to arrive

I LOVE The Simpsons but personally don't like Season One all that much. The characters are just far too different from what they are now (in looks, some voices and in the way they act) for my taste. But I'm definitely eagerly awaiting later seasons!
