DePalma DVDs of 8/28

Now that Carrie, Blow Out and Dressed To Kill have been released can someone give me a review of the DISK quality. I am NOT looking for a review of the movies. I've seen them each and love them all. I'm also NOT looking for a review from DVDtalk DVDfile or any of the other 'professional' reviewing places. I can look those up myself.

I'm interested in what a fellow consumer thinks about the quality of presentation. Thanks fellow fanatics!

I think it was http://horrordvds.com/ that had a review of Carrie in the past week or 2 of Carrie. As I recall it said said the image was not that much better than the orignal release but the extras were good. BB finally shipped my order today.

I watched Carrie last night and like DTK, although the tranfer is a tad soft on occasion, it's better than it's ever been for the home theatre enthusiast. Again the 5.1 audio is solid, not great.

And like DTK, the reason to pick up this disc, especially for $19.95 MSRP, are the extras which include two 45 minute documentaries, one about the directing of the film, the other about the acting. Both are very good.

cheers, Tony Block

chapter skipped thru Blow Out last night and unfortunately the best it can be described as is mediocre.
definately not as good as Carrie or DTK.
i, for one, can't understand any negativity towords this edition of Carrie. i almost didn't pick it up because of the less than stellar advance reviews.
well, i have to say, projecting this onto a 6' wide screen, i thought the image was never less than good, and frequently Excellant!. i didn't watch the whole movie, but the few scenes i saw left me very encouraged.
one sequence in particular with Spacek in the library looking through the card file...the detail in the close-up was unreal. i felt like i could pause and count every freckle on her face. everything i saw-color, contrast, black levels looked better than average ( and if your using MGM averages -WAY better average).
of course the quality could take a big dip in the 3 rd act ( which i didn't scann thru), but for what i saw it looked great.
Blow Out doesn't even really come close.
softer, muddier, less saturated colors.
in essence, your typical sub-par MGM disc.

THANK YOU CKOLCHAK!!!! (and also Tony Block)

That's exactly the kind of info I was looking for...MGM is a real toss-up when you buy from them and yes, the negative reviews had scared me off too. But now I think I'll go pick them up.

To those of you who read my thread and decided to post a link to someone else's already posted review anyway....

anyone checked out Dressed To Kill yet?

I haven't received my Carrie SE yet but I watched both DTK and Blow Out today.

To me DTK looked very good.

And I guess I'll disagree with ckolchak but to me Blow Out looked just about as good. Matter of fact, both transfers seem about equal to my eyes. I'm watching on a Hitachi 60" progressive scan 4:3 in 16x9 mode. Maybe if my monitor was larger I would have seen more difference, don't know. I'd say for most people that like this film, this transfer is nothing to worry about. It's not in a league with poor MGM transfers like Class (or insert your favorite example here).

I'm anxious to watch the extras on DTK...didn't have time to today but they look good.
