Need review on the film L’Avventura
The presentation and extras on the DVD seem fine from all the reviews I've read, but I was wondering how the film is.
I know it's a slow paced artistic film... but how does it compare to Picnic at Hanging Rock? (which I found interesting).
Can someone give me the names of films that compares to L’Avventura, so I can gauge whether it'll be something that I like?

Try
8 1/2
Last Year at Marienbad
The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie
And you may be more in the ballpark. Almost nothing in common with Hanging Rock.
I really liked it. Definitely want to see it again, possibly buy at some point. Need to watch more Antonioni.

The closest film I can think to compare it to is La Dolce Vita.
Although the film begins as somewhat of a mystery, it soon becomes apparent that the film is really about the emotionial states of its characters. Although it really doesn't have much of a plot per se, that isn't to say that the film is disjointed or lacks direction. The real "action" of the film takes place below the surface.
Antonioni's composition and photography is superb and enhances the themes and mood of the film wonderfully. The restoration job that criterion did is great. It's even more imprssive after watching the restoration demostration on the disc. I recommend the film very highly.

L’Avventura
L’Avventura is a classic but it is verrrrrry slow.
It's best compared to other Antonioni films. Have you seen "Blow Up"? "L’Avventura" is perhaps a better film, but slower.
P.S. I have seen three Antonioni films in the theater, and have fallen asleep all three times. I have better luck with his films on home video.

Just finished watching with commentary today - excellent commentary of an important film. Right now I'd have to say this is the one Antonioni to get on dvd. Good documentary and other extras too.
