First Look DVD Review: Chocolat (2000) SE

I was able to get an early copy of Miramax/Disney's "Chocolat" yesterday and have finished a review of the DVD.
The DVD provides a 1.85:1 anamorphic transfer of the movie that is enjoyable and often very good, but not quite up to the efforts that the studio has provided lately. There are some minor, if still noticable, little flaws on occasion. Colors look superb and the picture quality is otherwise fine.
I wasn't expecting a great deal from the audio, but the 5.1 presentation did prove to be involving as the surrounds were used for ambient sounds and music well. Audio quality was also very enjoyable.
In addition, the disc includes several supplements. A commentary from director Lasse Hallstrom as well as the four producers is the best feature as it provides the most insight - the group has some interesting stories and keeps things light and interesting. A 28 minute "making-of" is mildly informative, but won't likely interest many for repeat viewings. The same can be said for 2 featurettes. 7 deleted scenes round out the package, but they don't offer optional commentary.
Suprisingly, for a studio that is famous for its marketing, there are no trailers or TV spots.
Still, a very nice disc although nothing that I found too exceptional. A full review of the movie and DVD can be found at the link below.

Just wanted to post a comment - there are several trailers (just none for Chocolat) in the "Sneak Peeks" menu option - I'm not sure if thats what you meant in your review, but its a tad unclear.
The trailers I remember are for Cider House Rules, Good Will Hunting, Shakespeare in Love, Malena, Like Water for Chocolate, Life is Beautiful and I know there's at least 2 or maybe even 3 more...
Also, I thought the Deleted Scenes were rather..blah...a few of them I thought were in the actual movie...The Making of Featurette is great though
