I'm thinking of buying the Al Pacino collection, but I never viewed Sea of Love or Scent of a Woman.

How are these films?

It's been a long time since I've seen Sea of Love, but my recollection is that it was a decent cop buddy picture(Pacino/J. Goodman) The premise is that different men who are answering newspaper want ads for female companionship wind up dead, and it's the cops mission to identify and capture the perp. I do recall that Ellen Barkin looks pretty sexy in this movie. I don't own this DVD but found that it has D/D 2.0 and comes with a trailer.

Scent of a Woman is a movie I watched recently after having seen it before several years ago. My re-viewing of it was a pleasant surprise and a worthwhile experience. It was better than I had remembered it. Pacino puts in an oscar-worthy performance, and Chris O'Donnell (who I despised as Robin in the Batman movies) puts in an excellent showing as well. This movie comes in D/D 2.0 with Production Notes and Film Highlights.

I'd say that if these two films are what's holding you up, don't be concerned IMO. Go ahead with your purchase and then post what you thought.

Can't comment on the transfers, but the movies themselves are great. Scent is classic Pacino and Sea has the added bonus of Ellen Barkin. I would purcahse without hesitation.

hmmmm . . . i don't think of Sea Of Love as a buddy pic; IMO it falls in the thriller camp like Basic Instinct. Pacino is great, but Barkin's performance is amazing. the movie works largely because of her performance and the screen chemistry between her and Pacino. highly recommended.

Audrey summed up Sea of Love well. I ordered the DVD after seeing the film on cable a few weeks ago; I'll post my thoughts on the DVD once my copy arrives.

Sea of Love is full-frame. I personally wouldn't buy it.

Scent of a Woman is a very good movie. The widescreen transfer is okay, nothing spectacular or noticeably inadequate. The movie is worth owning, so I say go for the DVD, although it doesn't have many extras, so perhaps it shouldn't be a top of the priority list, but definitely one to get around to owning. My 2 cents.
