I posted this in All About Movies. No one responded and only seven people even bothered to look at it.
I want to spread the word about this movie, so we'll try it here in Reviews. Next stop, Other.
I just watched the documentary "The Ballad of Ramblin' Jack" and was blown away. Jack Elliot was a contemporary of Woody Guthrie, a mentor to Bob Dylan, and is considered by many to be the preeminent folk singer alive today. Plus he's one hell of a character. I had never even heard of him until I saw this dvd at the rental store and picked it up. It's written and directed by Elliot's daughter, who seems to be as interested in discovering her mostly allusive father as she is in exposing him to the viewer. Much of the footage and narrative is presented through her eyes with early footage and interviews to fill in the back story. It's beautifully written and wonderfully entertaining.
I highly recommend this film to anybody even remotely interested in music history or folklore. Check it out. This film deserves to find an audience.
