This is a great film. Much better than Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon IMHO. I rented it once on VHS but I'm wondering what the DVD is like. Are the video and audio any good? Any extras? Thanks.

...not having seen CTHD, I can only vouch for the excellence of TEATA - the movie and the DVD... for a detailed review of both (careful: !SPOILERS!) go here:

Very highly recommended!

Well, I understand that is your opinion, but I'd like to add that they are two different movies. Just because they are both Chinese doesn't mean they can be compared on equal footing. TEATA is indeed a great movie, but it's more of a historical drama. And of course, CTHD is a fairy tale with larger than life happenings.

They both belong in your collection.

CFG!

It's a lot better than "Dude, Where's My Car?" also.

Emperor DVD

Just got a copy of the dvd through work not too long ago (defective my ass!). The dvd looks and sounds very good. The good thing with most Mainland movies is that there is usually a good print to work from (unless you happen to be, cough cough, Fox Lorber..err Winstar...err Wesuck) and this title is no exception. The main extra is a feature length commentary with the director in English. If you liked the movie, you'll definitely enjoy the dvd.

"...the commentary track is good in parts, but is let down by the directors broken english..."

...I'd love to hear your commentary in broken Chinese - or any other language that doesn't happen to be your native tongue...

I am with Hendrik in thinking that this film is a more involved, complex, intricate, fascinating, cinematic, and satisfying experience than cthd.I don't care which one is better, I only know which film I enjoyed more.

Stay calm. I haven't seen this movie nor have I heard the commentary track, but it may be a fact that the director speaks broken English. In fact, his post may help people who like listening to commentaries.

The poster is not trying to ridicule the director.

Please don't beat me.
