I rather liked Judgment Night. The story isn't complex, 4 friends caught in the wrong part of town, witness a murder, and get chased by Dennis Leary(The local drug king). The film can be picked apart, but in this case it's more fun to just let your brain rest and enjoy the ride. The entire cast gives good performances, with Leary standing out. I thought the film was well directed, especially considering how little there was to work with. Sometimes a movie is just a movie, and Judgment Night isn't a waste of time. The dvd is a little above average in both the sound and the transfer for a Goodtimes release. The transfer is widecreen, and for a dark film it looks very good. There is very little grain, and the colors look natural. The black level is excellent, which is a must to enjoy a film with this many scenes filmed in the night. The audio was a pleasent surprise, with the 2.0 mix sounding alive. Dialogue is clear, and the sound effects come through well. The base isn't used particularly well, I wish it would have been a little more uniform. The only extra is production notes, and I don't know why they even bothered. Out of 5 stars:
Film-***1/2
Transfer-***1/2
Audio-***
Extras-1/2

I found it pretty dull overall. And that's a shame because I like Dennis Leary.

From: Right now, my location is DVDTalk, but then again, you should already know that, shouldn't you?
VERY IMPORTANT POINT: The DVD is in the erroneous aspect ratio of 1.78:1 whereas the Universal LaserDisc retains the correct 2.31 framing. Hence, there will be no purchase of the JUDGMENT NIGHT DVD in my house until they get it right...
