Is this movie dated? Action-packed movie?

I like Matrix, T2, MI:2, X-Men, Golden Eye, Rush Hour, U-571, Gladiator, Negotiator and all those thrilling and action-packed movies.

I disliked Batman (1989), Alien.

Is this movie gonna suit me? Well I hope you can help me decide because I have never watch this movie before. Thanks!

I like the movies you listed (including Batman, though I have not seen Matrix, T2, Gladiator, or Negotiator), so I think you'll like Superman - The Movie

Based on the movies you like...no, you will not like Superman - The Movie. It is dated and it is hardly action-packed. It is one of those mediocre films that for some reason generates a lot of undeserved buzz when being released on DVD.

But of course, YMMV.

I agree with sracer, you won't like this film. I think it's
a great nostalgia movie, but action packed it is not. If you didn't like batman, you probably won't like this film.

I love the movie for SUPERMAN, but it is definitely not "action-packed" like those others you listed. In fact, one of the things that I love about it is that it really takes it's time to get going -- spending a lot of screen minutes on story and character development.

So, in a sense, I'd recommend SUPERMAN because I think it's a great movie. But, if you only like movies like RUSH HOUR, T2, and THE MATRIX, you'll likely be bored/disappointed.

Superman

No I don't have the DVD yet, but I can more than comment on the movie itself.

Being 29, I saw Superman the Movie as a child. And just having gone through the 'miracle' of Star Wars, Superman the Movie was fan - f'ing - tastic!

Yeah alot of the setup was boring, the "Can You Read My Mind" is a little grating, but all in all, it's great. It's historical as film, and it's just plain ol' American. Never mind it was produced by someone named 'Salkind' and written by Mario Puzo (sorta).

With the surrounding DVD hype, I was thinking about Superman the other day asking myself a similar question. If it came out today, basically as is, would I like it? Or, at 29, if I saw it today for the first time, would I like it? I don't really know. Maybe not. The same thing could be said for The Black Hole, The Last Starfighter, Tron, Krull, Conan, etc. I loved those as a kid, they were the best thing going, man! But my parents (older generation) and my girlfriends kids (younger generation) don't care for any of those very much.

Superman the movie belongs to a certain generation. You don't have to like it, but you should respect it.

CFG!

Personally I think you would probably be better off getting Superman 2. If you plan to get any of the movies. You should probably rent first though.

Review Wanted: Superman Box Set

Rather than start a new thread, I'll just continue this one.

Some of you know about Best Buy's deal right now: Superman is $20 and if you buy that movie, you can get one of the other 3 Superman movies for $5 off (comes to $10 I think). The box set is $50. Now should I just get the first two movies for $30 or the box set for $50?

Are the last two movies so bad I shouldn't even watch them (let alone pay $20 to buy them both)? I vaguely remember the Superman vs. Clark Kent fight in Superman III to be kinda cool, but I don't recall much else. What do you think?

Good advice, Superman is the better film, but if your expecting a X-Men you'll be disappointed. Superman 2 has more action, it might be for you. Avoid Superman 4 unless you become a fan of the series(It's a extremely bad film no matter how you judge it).

Am I getting old? How old are you? I remember seeing this movie when I was a boy and loving it. I received my DVD on Saturday (from CDNow) and I spent all night watching both I and II.

I really enjoyed all the films you listed, but this movie is nothing like those. In addition some of the special effects might be considered cheesy by today's standards.

Save your money.

There are some funny bits in Superman III that might make me consider whether or not to get the box. These include the drunk Superman in the bar, and the Leaning Tower of Pisa sequences. I hate the fact that comedy bits were placed in Superman II, but since Superman III had those "comedy" bits from the start, I don't mind them as much, even though they suck for the most part. Superman IV however was just plain crappola.
