I liked BE.
I thought it was like a low budget 80's POPCORN sci fi flick.
But I was shocked by how bad Travolta acted in this movie.....

Actually, I thought his acting was pretty much right on the money with the way Terl acted in the book. (From what I remember of the book, Terl's character actually spoke/acted that way...) If you haven't read the book yet, you might want to give it a go, and let me know what you think. If you have, chime in and let me know if you agree!

Travolta = Terl
Skywalker is correct - Terl is an over-the-top in-your-face (and arrogant to boot) ET from hell who is presiding over a long-ago conquered planet that he has no respect for. This is just like in the book and Travolta plays him like he should.
I hear all this *hate* for this movie and for Travolta and I wonder how these 'movie experts' think the character of Terl should be played? I read this book years ago but I remember how despicable and scheming Terl was and -like it or not- Tavolta nailed the part. Kudos!!

On the topic of worst films seen in theatres
Battlefield Earth is one of the worst movies I've ever seen in theatres, along with the following:
A.I.
Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2
Beloved
Dude, Where's My Car?
Definitely the worst sci-fi movie ever. Within the first 10 minutes I want to go home. It's not a car wreck. It's a 150-car pile up.

Thank you for mentioning how horrible AI was. I would rather watch Battlefield Earth 100 more times than being subjected to one more gut-wrenching minute of AI.
AI is the worst movie of all time!! At least you could laugh at how horrible Battlefield Earth is. I've had more fun in traffic jams than I did when watching the bore which is AI.
AI is by far the worst movie I have EVER watched. Jurassic Park 3 was much, much, much more entertaining and that was the last movie I had watched before AI. You would think that after the complete disapointment of JP3 that no matter what I watched next would feel like a masterpiece. WRONG!!! If you want to watch AI, go sit in traffic for 2 1/2 hours, there you just watched AI.

I think all those people who say BE is the worst movie of all time are all the L. Ron Hubbard fanatics who were expecting their "bible" to translate perfectly to the big screen.
The movie is not worth owning or worth seeing again, but it definitely doesn't deserve the hatred which has been heaped upon it.
BTW - if you want a BAD movie, try Adam Sandler's first stint in "Going Overboard".

Battlefield deserves all the hatred that can be spewed upon it plus more. I never read the book, or knew much of the story line before seeing it, I just just heard it was crap. I borrowed the dvd from a friend expecting crap, so my expectations were already very low. The movie turned out to be worse than what I could have ever expected! AI was still much, much worse. One of these days I'll have a top-ten worst movies of all time list, but I can pretty much guaruntee that Battlefield earth will be #2, with AI being #1
