I just received my new yamaha rx-v1000, got everything hooked up and sat back and was blown away by my dts versions of several new movies. I put in T2 SE and turned the volume up to around -30 dcb and my receiver turns off when very loud crashes or explosions come over the speakers. Is this the amp clipping? I have installed new banana plugs to new 12g speaker wire and no lines are crossing.

I have read here that one should not turn the volume up more than halfway, or if more volume is needed to use external amps.

How can I get the amp to stop turning off? I am using NHT superones, superzeros, supercenter and sony sub. Please help.

Sounds to me like you are pushing the Yamaha too much, and it's shutting itself off to prevent it from frying. Check the ohm ratings on your speakers and receiver and make sure everything is kosher there (not familiar with your speakers or your receiver, sorry), and check your playback level with an spl meter to find out what volume you are actually listening to. '-30' on your receiver isn't the actual decibel output of your receiver, it's an arbitrary number used by the manufacturer, and has little to do with actual spl's. It may simply be too much to ask of the Yamaha.
