I popped my dvd of The Hunt for Red October tonight and to my dismay, it would only play in 3.2 DD. I put in T2 and tried both DD and DTS but still could not do any better than 3.2. It was the first time that I watched Red October but I am pretty sure when I watched T2 the first time, it was 5.1. I have a sony de-845 reciever with a sony s360 player running through an optical cable. Can anyone give me any help as to why I am stuck at 3.2?

3.2 or 3/2?
I think this is some idiotic Sony indicator that you are getting 5 channels: 3 front / 2 rear. Check your manual. Everything is probably fine. At any rate, there is no ".2" channel, so you must be reading it wrong.

I have a Sony 530D and it does the same thing. Confusing, but you are getting 5.1
