I can't seem to get the DTS to work on my Pioneer 302d dvd player. I know the player and receiver (Onkyo 575x) are DTS capable. I think the problem is with the dvd plAyer because only the Dolby Digital symbol is lit up on the display. Am I missing something? I have been through the manula but can't figure it out. I have it set to DTS in the on-screen menu. It's hooked up through a Didital Coax cable.
Only thing I can think of is that I don't have a sub-woofer at this time. Could that make a difference?
Anything else? Help..............

Not having a sub shouldn't affect the DTS output (although to enjoy it and DD5.1, a sub is a must)
Be sure to select DTS on the actual DVD movie's menu as well as your DVD players.
If you set the DVD player up for DTS output, you select DTS on the movies menu, and you are using digital coax, you should be getting a DTS signal when A DTS disc is playing.
I'm not familiar with you receiver, but if it's like the two I've owned, there isn't any set-up required via the receiver. It should recognize the DTS signal as soon as you feed it one.
What DTS DVD are you using to test it out with?

thanks
I didn't even think about the menu in the movie. I'll check it out later tonight. I've had the setup since last summer and, believe it or not, I have never owned/rented a DTS movie. That's probably why I haven't thought to try the sound options on the dvd.
BTW the movie is Bring it On. I didn't really want to admit that but you forced it out of me.hahahha.
Thanks alot. I'll let you all know if it works.

I thought I read somewhere that the DTS format requires all six speakers be attached (i.e. 1 center, 2 fronts, 2 surrounds, 1 subwoofer)...Unlike Dolby Digital. Maybe that's the problem.
You should get a sub, anyway. It makes a HUGE difference.

Got it to work. Thanks everyone. It was the actual menu on the dvd itself. Just had to chosse DTS. I feel dumb though. i went through the dvd player manula and the receiver manual and checked settings for about 45 minutes. Oh well.
Niteshade- It does work without the sub. I know I need to get one someday. ANy relatively inexpensive suggestions?

If I might add a line or two to this (already concluded) thread:
Even if you can manage to get your equipment set up to play DTS (or even DD5.1) a lot of discs don't default to the 5.1 soundtrack. I've been at my dad's place a couple of times where he's been watching a DD5.1 disc with Dolby Surround soundtrack (same thing as you de8212; he wasn't familiar with / forgot the disc setup menu and assumed DD5.1 / DTS would come out automatically).
I guess a lot of Region 2 discs assume people only have 2 speakers / dolby surround gear...
But it is still pretty funny to see people buy all the gear and then listen to plain-Jane stereo soundtrack unwittingly!
