Okay, this is kind of a hardware question, so let me throw it out here... I'm moving into an apartment in the city, and the security is, well, lacking. I fully intend on getting renter's insurance for all my stuff, but quite frankly, I'd rather not ever need to use it. What I'm looking for is some kind of physical lock/cable system to secure my DVD player, TV, etc. I've seen this kind of stuff for computers, but I can't seem to find something that is tailored for home theater equipment in particular.
Does anyone have any ideas where I can find this kind of thing, or any ideas "thinking outside the box" for how I can rest a little easier knowing that my equipment is secure?

I don't know where you would begin looking for this kind of thing, but hotels/motels have brackets they use to bolt those kinds of things down to the furniture.

Also, using a security device may preven them from stealing your equipment, but it won't keep them from destroying it.

Yeah, I thought about that too, but I can't get too paranoid... I think I'm going to try to beef up the external security of the place too (new deadbolts, window locks, etc...)

The dorm I used to live had a nice sized projection TV that was tied to the wall using a 1/2" think steel cable. The cable was attached to the wall via an eyelet mounted on a plate which was then bolted to the wall. Same idea as the computer monitor protection, but much beefer.

I think your best idea though would be to use the computer protection equip as it's something that you could easily get your hands on. Finding anything else would probably mean finding and trying to buy from a Hotel supply store. I'm not sure that such a place would sell to an individual especially considering it would be a relatively small purchase. Just thought I'd let you know there is stuff out there, just not readily available.
