I have a Kenwood VR-407 receiver and a Toshiba SD-2109 DVD player. Whenever I play a DVD there is a 1-2 second sound delay whenever I begin playing a disc, change chapters, or change menu options. Is this delay caused by the receiver or the DVD player? The sound output from the DVD player is connected to the reciever with a digital coaxial monster cable. Is this delay common and just something I have to live with or can I fix it somehow? Thanks for any input.

Sounds like a lip synch problem from your player.
Is it just one disc or all discs?
If it is all discs take back the player, if it is just that one disc take back the disc.

I noticed this problem on my new HT with Terminator 2. That little idiot kid's lips kept moving after he spoke, like some cheap foreign dubbing.
The problem is easy to solve -- its really a matter of adjusting your speaker distances ... not physically, but in the setup/menu.
Then everything will be peachy!

I'm having the same problem. I think it's just something "you have to live with" as you put it.
I'm pretty sure, it's because usually, all the menus, chapters, etc are recorded in different sound formats and the receiver/DVD player have to get "in sync" with each other. That's just my two cents. FWIW I'm running a Sony DA555ES.

Thanks guys. The delay happens on all disks. It's to late to take my player back to BBuy. It is not a "lip synch" problem, because after the delay, there is no problem with dialogue, only when going to a chapter from a scene selection menu or changing menus. The speakers are not out of synch, they all have the delay. I guess I'll just have to wait until something breaks and I replace components in my HT to see what the cause is. I was thinking its my receiver, but if an expensive Sony like Thunderball has is doing it, maybe not. My Kenwood does make a loud click whenever I change inputs, so maybe my receiver has some delay. Thanks for the responses.
