I have a Pioneer DV-333 and just purchased a Technics SA-DX1040. So, I hooked up the DV-333 through the optical hookup. The sound is awesome. But, whenever a DVD switches audio formats to DD or DTS (ie. menus are not DD or DTS but the movie is), I get a popping noise. It doesn't occur at any other time. Is this normal?

Thanks.

i had a pioneer 608 that did that too. it did some other funky stuff so i replaced it with a yamaha.

same cables, same config...no popping.

i guess some receivers just do that.

My Kenwood VR-309 did the same thing. I'm not sure if it's a low to mid receiver thing. But once you get into the elite receivers the ES line, the Elites, Denons, Yamahas etc, the problem seems to decipitate.

Well, I called Technics customer service, and they said to check the connection. They told me their should be no popping noise when switching between audio formats. So, I unplugged the optical cable on both ends and reconnected it. No more popping! I guess it makes sense that the optical cable connection would be a little more sensitive. Quite a relief.

My Kenwood 307 has done this loud clicking sound whenever I change inputs from day one, no matter how many times I played with the wires.

I might as well throw this in while we're at it.

I have a similar popping during every menu transition on T2:UE. This is the only disc of mine that pops. Maybe a DD/DTS hybrid thing?

AND

This could be a problem with the player or the receiver, as I seem to remember a few previous DVD players exhibiting this problem... Panasonics maybe???

I have a Denon 3300 and experience a clicking whenever audio formats are changed. To my understanding this is normal on my receiver. If yours stopped by reconnecting the cable it definately wasn't normal. Then again mine is a click and not a pop.
