I am considering changing my Acoustic Research Center (CS-225) to a Yamaha NSA-2836 floor speaker. Have any of you had any luck using a floor speaker as a center channel?
Size of AC center:
2 5 1/4" mids and 1 1" tweeter
Specs of Yahmaha floor speaker:
2 8" woofers, 1 5 1/4" midrange, and 1 1" tweeter.
My other speakers are not matched.

I guess I have to ask why you want to do this and what you expect to gain. If I wanted to improve my center, I'd first try and get it as closely matched to my mains as possible. If you have a sub, then the bigger woofers aren't going to make any improvement. I notice that my center is predominantly reporducing vocals which don't require a large woofer, and this is a case where multiple smaller woofers would be prefered to a bigger ones. Maybe I'm not reading your post right though.

I just thought a larger speaker would perform better just like a movie theater. I don't have a large room for this type of speaker, but the sound quality would increase with a larger speaker.
Where does the low end go in a center speaker? There is no woofer to handle any of it. The mids are ok in a center, but I think a woofer would multiply the quality.
Maybe I'm crazy. Who knows?
