Hi,
I am keen to pick up one of these machines in the near future, however, I have couple of questions.
Firstly, I note that this player has an optical and coax digital out. My understaning therefore is that I can get DTS output for LD but not DVD? Is this correct? I have seen mod's that will enable DVD DTS, but am I correct in assumming that the unmoded 909 will give me DTS for my LD's.
Secondly, I will be connecting this player to my existing system and I would like some opinions on cabling. Basically, can I get details of the essential cables that I will require and also some tips on type of cables used and best type of cable set-up. My system set-up will include:
Sony DB-930 DD/DTS Receiver;
Sony DVP7700 DVD Player;
Pioneer DVL 909 DVD/LD player;
Yamaha APD-1 RF demodulator; and
Phillips Flatscreen TV.
Comments from anyone with similar componentry set-up would be appreciated. Thanks in anticipation.

I have a DVL-909, Sony DB930 and Yamaha APD-1 Demodulator.
Un-modded 909's will output the bitstream for the dts LDs through the optical fiber (TOSLink) digital output connection (just select DIGITAL Output on the LD player for the audio output). Connect the optical fiber cable from the DVL-909's digital output to the Sony's LD digital optical fiber input. If the Digital input is set to Auto, anytime you select the LD input, and play a dts LD, you should see the blue light of love come up and the dts 3/2 on the receiver's display.
The AC-3 Coaxial (RCA) output gets fed into the Yamaha APD-1 and its output is coaxial as well, and that gets fed into the coaxial digital input on your Sony DB930. When you play AC-3 LDs, you'll need to manually switch your digital input from Auto to Coaxial (I have to do this when I play my AC-3 version of The Phantom Menace LD.)
Any decent $20 optical fiber cable will work for the TosLink connection. Get a couple of 75 ohm Coaxial RCA cable for the AC-3 hookup from the DVL-909 to the Demod to the receiver. I would get some $5 composite RCA Coaxial video cables from Radio Shack. If you spend more than that, I think you're throwing money away.

Patman, thanks for the advice. I'll have it set-up in the next month or so. Til then can you recommend some great dts LD titles.
One more thing, I have read various conflicting accounts about making this player code free. Is it as simple as pressing some buttons on the remote, or do I need to lift the lid modify the player then use the remote.
Thanks heaps.
