Does anyone with an HD-Ready 4:3 TV have the HD Dish Network receiver (and extra satellite) and receive the HD channels? I have the Toshiba CN36X81 and am debating getting the HD DSS setup.
How does it look - much better than a DVD? Also, does the Dolby 5.1 sound as good as a DVD?
Thanks.

HD looks a lot better than dvd. I could not believe it when I first saw it. As for the 5.1, I wasnt listening as much as I was watching. hope that helps.
If I had an hd compatible tv, i would get HDTV in a second.

I have the Dish 6000 w/OTA module and viewing with a 27" TV via composite inputs and the HD pictures are superior to what I get off the DVD player (Tosh 5109 progressive). As soon as the copy protection crap gets settled and the new HD sets come out, I will buy one. I work darn hard for my money and am not about to plunk down $5K for a TV and have it become obsolete at the flip of a switch.

First post- I'm glad someone has the same question I do. I just bought what looks to be too much T.V. for my analog cable signal. I want to get HDTV, but don't know exact costs and how-to and stuff. I have the Sony 36XBR400, the 36" Wega screen (mucho dinero). Anyway, how do I get HDTV? Does anyone know costs and stuff? Also: Is it worth it?

Sony just finally showed their HD-DSS system at CES last month. It will be available in about 60 days and will retail for $799. The set-top box handles HDTV for air broadcast, digital satellite and cable. It was a sweet unit that the world has been waiting for for too long. Now, all we need is more HDTV content for DSS.

This post is a RIOT!! He's so impressed with the HD pictures off the Composite inputs! If only he realized he never saw HD at all as they are only viewable on a HDTV using the Component or RGB(VGA) outputs of the 6000!

DSS is only offering 1 channel in HD. Hardly worth buying the new sat dish, sat reciever, and HD ready TV. It seems HD is damm slow coming. I live in central Wis and I doubt it will be here by the proposed 2006. We have 1 local channel that doesn't even broadcast in stereo yet. If you can believe that. Ive seen Hd and it is a lot better than DVD.akes me wonder what will become of our DVD's.
