Any good deals of subwoofers lately? looking for a small one, 8" .. might try 10"..

Some i have looked for are
VELODYNE ACOUSTICS CT 80 (kinda too expensive)
JBL PB-10 10" Powered Subwoofer
Acoustic-Research ARS108PS 8" Powered Subwoofer (cheapest compared to the other 2)

Anybody have comments/ideas/recommendation?

I think the Sony SA-WM40 might fit the bill. Getting good reviews, and under $200! Check this thread for details and discussion!!

I have the CT-80, and in my opinion, it's one of, if not the best sounding "bargain" 8" sub out there. It's well worth the extra $.

I also have a Velodyne. I bought the CT100 which is the 10" version and have also been pleased. I posted a reply to someone asking the same question a few days ago. I cannot begin to say I am some sort of expert on subs but I know threee things which held true to the Velodye. the bass response was not boomy. Some of the others such as the Polk and the JBL I found to exhibit this. the Velodyne did not sound contained. Also some of the others that I tested such as the Paradigm were a bit more money. The B&W which I personally liked the looks of better was almost 2.5 times more money. I paid $425 for the CT100 and I'm would give my vote for it.

Have you looked at any of the Mission subs? I would recommend the 700ASi powered sub. Here are the specs on it.

- Front firing 10" woofer
- 150 watt amplifier
- Adjustable crossover and level controls

You can order it from http://www.audioshop.on.ca/cyrus.htm for around $355 (US) shipped. For an exact total, you can email Audioshop and give them your address.

i would get either the mission that was recommended by Bartley, or the HSU Research VTF-2. I have the VTF-2 and its awesome. The HSU and Mission were rated the 2 best subs under 500 dollars. The HSU supposedly outperforms subs up to 1k.

You can get the HSU from www.jeffssoundvalues.com for 425 plus shipping.

Its a 10" sub.

If you want to spend under 200, get the Sony that drmoze recommends.

I have also heard good things about the Sony, but myself, personally wont by a Sony. I do know others who have it and love it.

velodyne velodyne velodyne velodyne....
that being said i really like velodyne subs. of course it depends on how much money you have but you can get an excellent 10 in for about 400. velodyne used to cost around 1000 for a comparable model. and they are still just as good. it is worth saving up the money. make sure you have good cables too. the best sub you can get at a circuit city level store.

Do you want an 8 or 10 because they are cheaper? If so you may want to consider making one. You can make a pretty kickass sub for $400-500 with a built-in amp and a quality 12-15" driver. If you went with a smaller driver/amp you could always drop that $400 too. Just a thought.
