I've lost my dvd player remote, (for a Philips Magnavox btw..), and I was wondering if they make universal remotes that will work with dvd players? Has anyone had to order a replacement? Any advice is helpful... it sucks to have to press those little buttons on the player to get anywhere with a disc.

One-for-All and Radio shack make inexpensive models. For full-featured remotes, check out www.remotecentral.com.

I have the Radio Shack RS 15-1994 and LOVE it
It's backlit, learning (of course), and has macro capabilities.
I'm using it to control all the functions of my:
receiver, DVD player, CD player, digital cable box, TV, and VCR.
...and all this for $29. not too shabby

If you want your original remote, go to www.remotes.com (no they didn't steal it, but they may have a replacement).
If you want something new and cool that you might use for other stuff as well, look to www.remotecentral.com
They have reviews for lots of different price levels. That's where I got hooked into buying my Pronto.

I picked the Radio shack R15-1994 and it is simply awesome. I am able to control my RCA vcr, Time Warner Digital Cable Box, Pioneer laserdisc, Panasonic DVD and Sony STR845 receiver with all functions. Great info guys. And at $29.95, you can't beat that price.

The RS 15-1994 is essentially the same as the One For ALL Cinema 7 (OFA has an extra device, RS has X10 device control, both made by OFA). This is an excellent remote, with tons of codes, extended key function codes, key relocation, macros (turn all your HT stuff on/off and switch to proper inputs with one buutton push), plus it learns commands too! I have 2 (one for bedroom, one for HT) and it is great. I laugh at folks who spend $100+ on remotes that aren't even as capable or handy as these. You can get the Cinema 7 for $25 at J&R music world. Also, for tons of info on the OFA and RS remotes, check out The One For All Cinema 7 FAQ and the One For All Remotes page.

Another vote for the rs 15-1994. Excellent remote for 30-40 bucks depending on whether you catch it on sale or not. I used it for my tv, dvd, vcr, receiver, and cd player. Now I have my Tivo remote for my TV and Receiver volume, so it doesn't get quite as much use, but still a lot.

About a week ago I picked up the Cinema 7. LOVE it (BB, B&M, $37.95). I mentioned in another post the BEST thing about this (and the RS), is the HUGE amount of information available. Check out the link above for Remotecentral. That web site will make the learning curve for your new remote almost 0. After reviewing the Cinema 7 at remotecentral, I decided that was all I needed. You might want to also check out the Sony (don't remmeber the mode, it funs about $55.00).
