TCL NXT Frame or Samsung The Frame?
Title says it all.
I had settled on the TCL as it was nearly $900 less. Samsung has reduced pricing so now about $300 or less difference. And I’m assuming Super Bowl pricing will start next week, so need to make a decision.
Yes, I know. None of these “frame TV’s” offer the pic quality of a similar priced (or even less expensive) traditional TV’s. My application is for a very bright living room that will only have any viewing at night. So I’m really going for the daytime “look” of being a frame and not sticking out like a traditional TV. I especially like the mat screen of these to reduce glare if I do watch during day time and when I have on as a piece of art.
Im pretty sure the Samsung has a better pic quality for movies and viewing. I was willing to pay the $900 more just for that. But the fact to get the most out of it u need a subscription (otherwise ur limited on art) and the one box set up uses a proprietary connection, turned me off. But at $300 difference I’ve circled back for another look.
Any thoughts? The TCL is fairly new, so imagine not many have it. The Samsung has been a popular tv for them. Anyone have and not get the subscription? Any issues with the one box set up?

This really should go in DVD & Home Theater Gear. Yeah, I forget it exists, too.
A third option could be the Hisense CanvasTV series, which RTINGS gives a slight edge to over the TCL. Both score well below the Samsung, though.

Today I did some digging and found out my company qualifies as a business partner with Samsung. So can get it about $150 less than Amazon, BB, etc. plus if use the app qualify for another $50 off for 1st purchase. This should get me only about $150 over the TCL.
I did se the Hisense, but looks like it only goes to 65”. I’ve been looking at the 75” Samsung and TCL.
The Samsung seems a no-brainer now. Only negative is reviews say the Samsung interface is horribly slow and laggy. That Apple TV is a must. So guess got to figure that cost, but I use Apple TV in my bar and do like it.

Re: TCL NXT Frame or Samsung The Frame?
We've had a Samsung The Frame for a couple years now, I can't recall exactly, but it's a great display for us. Our condo wall is about 140 degrees southeast and the tv is on the wall exactly opposite the window so the glare used to make tv watching with the shades open literally impossible. Now it's only on the most extremely brightest days that we have to close the sunshade on the opposite window and that's rare.
We run a PS5, Switch and our Apple TV through it and it's a beautiful display for everything. When we're not actively using it my wife rotates all kinds of interesting artwork through the display, and she did the whole picture gallery thing on the same wall so it blends right in as a display piece.
We got the 75" as we previously had a 60" and I told my wife I wanted to add at least 10" if we were going to upgrade our old tv before the end of the lifecycle of the previous one (which we managed to flip on marketplace for a little cash, so that was good).

exclusive to Samsung is a motion sensor: which seems like a good feature when using the art.
Yes, I have all sorts of windows in living room. It’s not set up for a TV. But I want to use the room, so I’m adding a frame TV and bourbon bar 😉
At this point I’ll stick with the Samsung. Just seee how low can get price

Re: TCL NXT Frame or Samsung The Frame?
Just ordered the Samsung Frame TV 75”. Should be here on Thursday.
With their partner discount and $50 off for first time ordering with app, I got it within $70 of the TCL. And the Samsung is a lot nicer. Almost dropped to the 65” version, but the room is so big it would just swallow it up. So stayed with the 75”.

Yeah, the 75" is probably a smidge too big for our room, but I want as much clarity and resolution as possible, especially when we're playing couch co-op games on it.

Re: TCL NXT Frame or Samsung The Frame?
Day I ordered TV, I was having painter come to look at a different project, he gave me a reasonable deal and more importantly, he gave me confidence he knew what he was doing (I need some drywall work done and old wallpaper border removed in addition to paint). Literally walking by living room to walk out the door, I randomly say “anything u can do with this old 70’s textured wallpaper”. It’s in terrible shape but can only imagine cost to remove. He said “I can point it”. I’m like WTF, yes!
Soooo…when I had TV guy (I randomly found) come yesterday to mount new TV in living room and old tv in bedroom, I had him do bedroom only. This will give me opportunity to paint living room first.
TV mounting guy was pretty sketchy. He arrived in obviously a personal vehicle. He was over an hour late. He didn’t protect floor (no damage) and oddly he didn’t come close to following code. He mounted it with power cord and regular HDMI in the walls. Whats weird is they have kits for these now so u can do it correctly. Now I have an old 70’s home. Nothing is up to modern code. So I didn’t stop him. Just surprised a “professional” would do that. I could have taken couple hours and did what he did. The mounting itself he did well, and with a 65”, it’s not coming down. 😂
But I’ll find someone else for new Samsung, with the cover plates he used on this bedroom TV I’m not sure The Frame would b perfectly flat. The bedroom I fin. But I bought the frame to b perfectly flat in living room.

Been working out of town. TV getting mounted Thursday, yes after several months (I wanted to be home).
Recommendations for a value 4K DVD player for it? Will be my first true 4K display, so might as well use it.

Re: TCL NXT Frame or Samsung The Frame?
I’ve played around with both, and here’s the deal: Samsung’s picture quality is definitely cleaner and more vibrant, especially in dark scenes. But that One Connect box can be a hassle if you want flexibility with cables or setups, plus the subscription for art can feel like a bit of a money grab if you’re not into that. TCL’s newer to this style but honestly, for daytime art mode and just casual night viewing, it’s solid and way less headache with connections. If you’re not super picky about deep black levels and want less fuss, TCL’s a smart choice. But if movie nights are a big deal, Samsung still leads.

Re: TCL NXT Frame or Samsung The Frame?
Yup, I bought a memory stick full of art for the TV.
No subscription.
I also bought the Samsung “brown/wood”
magnetic frame and all really looks good.
I thought I called a home theater store to install. Everything a “gig economy” now. But they did fine. No issues.
I like the box. I have a lower cabinet. So it sits in there and I’ll add a DVD player and maybe a game console. Already added a sound bar with remote BT sub. Heck, I naught put the sound bar in the cabinet for an ultra clean look.
