What’s a good multi-device learning remote?
 

I’ve had the the same for like 20 years it would seem. I love it, but I think its day has come. It was the MX-500 universal remote.

So, what’s a good, newer, multifunctional, backlit remote? Ones you all use and would recommend.

I basically want to learn all my mx-500 keys into new remote. Must be at least 6 devices. And something that can be readily gotten on Amazon. I have some gc to use. Thanks.

This is a tricky question these days. Normally I would have said to pick . But now that they are discontinued, they are all currently obscenely overpriced. I have sometimes heard that Sofabaton is currently the next best thing but it has it's pros and cons (https://www.universalremotereviews.com/sofabaton-vs-harmony/).

Yes, I’ve heard sofabaton. You’re the second to recommend. It does have pros and cons like I saw in a video. It just looks too complicated for me. Thanks Roc!

I just realized it has no number buttons. Wtf?? How are you supposed to change channel fastest? I know I could do through Alexa but what about actually changing channels using remote?

It seems you use the scroll wheel to input numbers. Weird choice, if you ask me.

Number buttons are not needed as much as more people are getting away from cable. I can't think of the last time I needed number buttons (haven't had cable in a decade). I can get why why remote manufacturers leave them off.

I suppose you're right. However, it looks odd when the cheaper model has number buttons while the expensive model does not.

just got the Logitech 665, i think. like new condition from Amazon Warehouse. it looks brand spanking new and no sticky residue. i was very happy about that. so this isn't a learning remote at all? meaning i can't just transfer a button on old remote to this new one via lining them up and stuff? this is all done on pc through the logitech link.

My Harmony remote is slowly dying. The volume down button barely works, all the icons are worn, and the rubber is getting sticky. It's unbelievable to me that no viable alternative exists that is superior to this.
