I was just curious to see what kinds of music people are listening to through their amazing/expensive systems. I'll get the ball rolling:
Beatles
Led Zeppelin
Jethro Tull
and the newcomers -- Travis

Stones, Gary Burton, any of the new swing bands, and thundering classical! Santana's Supernatural sounds good, too.
I can't get my son (who is a dj in the greater DC area) to give me any CD's of techno, but that would fill the house.

Classical, mostly romantic.
Jazz, all kinds.
Celtic, traditional and modern.
Native American
Standards, mostly vocal.
Nature sounds for background, not with music.
Some soundtracks.
Some rock.
No rap.

I use so many different songs and sound effects to demonstrate my system that I couldn't list them here.
Just out of interest last night I put on Madonna's Live to Tell. You guys give that a go and tell me what you think.

I too, like Travis. Unfortunately, "The Man Who" is not a very good recording.
Bands I like:
Radiohead
Placebo
Bettie Serveert
Nada Surf
Catatonia
Lush
Delerium
Lately:
My Bloody Valentine
Leftfield
I envy those who are into jazz or blues because they get the best of both worlds: music they love + audiophile recordings. Most of my cds are recorded rather poorly. But hey...music is all that matters.

I like just about everything but here's what I listen to the most.
John Coltrane
Miles Davis
Portishead
Propellarhead
Rage Against the Machine
Red Hot Chili Peppers
John Lee Hooker (poor recording though)
The Police
Zeppelin
Radiohead
And as much as I hate to admit it I also use Dave Matthew's Band a lot when I'm demoing equipment. Great mix of vocals, instrumental, and bass, the speaker really has to be fast to make the CD sound good.
I never really got into those elitest recording from Chesky or whoever makes them. The idea of buying CD's that will me notice the flaws in my system isn't really something I desire...

Oh, don't ask an old guy to remember stuff like that. He told me where, but I can't remember, and I don't have any of the promo stuff here at work. He's aspiring, so you won't recognize his name (Jesse), and he still does a lot of promo work. He listens mostly to vinyl (my turntable is old like me, so I don't listen to my large vinyl collection much), and I wanted some names to look for. He just moved from Annandale. Where do you dj?

Mostly some Nine Inch Nails and NOFX.
Nine Inch Nails is great for the very deep bass testing, great vocals, and it also has many layers of different, complex sounds. The songs just fill the house.
NOFX has plenty of loud, fast and furious tunes that are great for just showing that I have a loud, kick-ass system.
