As a BBY employee(donning flameproof suite ) I can relate to many of the complaints here. I have worked in sales, services(AV/PC tech), merch, and now I am a Project Electronics Display Specialist in the D/FW area. In every store I have been in, I always have to re-educate the home theater sales-droids on how to display their RPTV's. Since the first part of December, I have been stuck in a store. I have been round and round with both the HT and audio sups about sales and display problems. Unfortunately, neither of them care about that. All they care about is their numbers. Some of the lower ranks have accually sat and listened to some of what I was saying, and have later thanked me for the info. Unfortunately, the powers that be are not concerned with education.

Unfortunately, when you cater to the lowest common denominator, you get the results most people are complaining about.

Sorry my first post is so negative. I really do believe that the company is a descent place to find some good deals. Those that shop there, do so because good enough really is. And there is nothing wrong with that. There a lot of people out there that don't want or need a $50,000+ home theater.

My complaint would be that the employee's in one of these places SHOULD know what they are talking about, even if the store does not train them.

With all the information available on the internet and other sources how could you not know if you did it for a living

PURE LAZINESS!!!!

I workd retail when I was younger, I sold computers (back when the 8088 processor was HOT) Do you think I knew much about computers when I started? Hell no, did I learn quickly, yes. I could not stand to be asked quesions everyday that I could not answer. So I taught myself on my own time, just so I did not look like a moron everyday. It helped sales too. I think the bigger problem here is people (employees) just don't care if they look like idiots. Come in at 9 leave at 5, get paid, don't do anymore than you absolutely have to, who cares anyway mommy and daddy will bail me out of any life problems I encounter.

I don't care if you work at BB or CC or a high end store, if you spend 8 hours a day around this stuff it should rub off. If not then you are stupid/lazy or both.

Give me a break, it is not like any of this hometheater stuff is too complicated to understand if you try.

This is the reason I hate most sales people. I can learn more on my own in 10 minutes on the internet than I could in 2 hours at a store talking to a stockboy...er...a..I mean salesperson

My experience with Bestbuy and tech. help has been very good. They have answered my questions correctly with my situations. Compared to The Wiz, PC Richards and Radio Shack(aka Idiot Shack),Bestbuy is tops. Lets see, to name a few: Radio Shack didn't know what banana plugs were, could't help me with a question about my sound meter. Now when(if) I walk in to Radio Shack, if a saleman as asks, "can I help You", I will have to say "probably not"!. The Wiz swore to me that there was no such thing as optical cable when asked if they had any. After finding it at Bestbuy, I went back to The Wiz, found the salesman, shoved the optical cable in his face, and made him and two others saleman look like morons, like he tried and faild to do to me. I am not going to get into PC Richards, too

As a general rule, I avoid the salespeople at Best Buy & similar retail stores.
With so much information at my fingertips through the internet, I will do my own research on the manufacturer's web page, and on forums like this one. Then when I know what I need to know, I'll go to the cheapest store and pick it up.
All too often I have found that even if the salesperson sounds like he knows what he's talking about, it isn't necessarily the case.

Part of the reason we all run into these "ignornant" salespeople is that few of them ever stick around for long. Yeah, it's a part time job to get me through school, or whatever. What do they care if their HDTVs are calibrated correctly? They plan on leaving in 6 months.

Unfortunately they have crushed the life out of the competition where I live. This is the reason why they can provide such mediocre service.

The only reason I go in there is to see things I would like to buy and then I order on-line. List prices are hardly "Best-Buy" and there is nothing in that store that I cannot and have not gotten cheaper elsewhere.

Some sales people are professional, some are just temps. I had a question about my Wega, and I went back to the regional bigbox imitation where I got it, found Joe (my sales guy), and asked the question. He answered the question, and demonstrated on the Wega demo model, and kept me a happy camper. HE's professional. This is not a part-time temp job for him.

Seems to me that it's up to us to find the good professionals, stick with 'em, and support them. It would be worth our while. (But I'll still get the odd accessory or whatever at BB or CC, but only if I know exactly what to look for.)

If you go to Best Buy expecting the $7/hour employee to help you out you are doing a disservice to yourself. Do your own research. A few employees go out of their way to help. When BB took commission out of the compensation package there was an immediate drop in service.

To the BB employees- Get used to it. No matter where you go, no matter what you do you will strangely be followed by stupid people. Such is the way of the world.
