Okay, I am far from an audio expert. I have had the Pioneer D607S for over two years now and still have the same problem. My speakers and powered subwoofer are Atlantic Technology 251.1's. My subwoofer does not work when it should. I have my receiver set to "small" speakers, Subwoofer set to "on", crossover set to 200hz(as recommended in manual), LFE set to 10db. The subwoofer is connected to the receivers "pre-out" and to the "low level input" of the subwoofer. The subwoofer won't work in any mode(DVD,CD,FM) but the LED light is on. Previously it would work on and off, now it won't at all. I use Radio Shack gold connectors. All help appreciated.

assuming y0ur mains are set to "small", the subwoofer out is set to "on", and you have it plugged in correctly; it should come on.
1. have you tested the sub on another receiver?
2. have you tested another sub with your receiver?
