I am looking for a low/mid price DVD/CD that I will use for movies but will also be my only CD player. I have had a borrowed ancient single-disc player and never watched much less owned DVD so I'm not really sure what features I should get. My next computer will have a CD writer so I assume (?) I would want CDR capability so I can play home-made music CDs. I have DD A/V receiver w/o S video and a pre-DVD TV w/ S video, and VCR. From what I read, the Pioneer 333 is a possibility, and the Panasonic RV30, Denon 2500, and Sony 360 if I pass on the CDR. Thanks

A year ago I bought a Pioneer DV C302D with the 3 tray carousel to use as a DVD/CD player. I've been quite happy with the video and audio performance of this unit. Also, Pioneer DVD players will play CD-Rs, I burn my own CDs and they all play well on the C302D. Check it out on Audioreview.com.

It might cost a little more than the other's but since you are going to be using this for music and movies I have to suggest it. The NAD T550. I think you can get it for around $500 ($800 Retail), but it has unparralleled music and dvd preformance. NAD is famous for it's CD players and this is no exception. If it's too much go for a Pioneer. They have the greatest CDR compatibility out there and the performance won't suffer...
