Hi, I'm new to the home theater thing. We bought a surround sound system about three years ago. It is dolby pro logic. It has five speakers. We just bought a DVD player this Christmas. (Love it by the way!) All the DVD's say DTS or 5.1 Dolby digital or 2.0 dolby surround. What exactly do I have, rather, what is dolby pro logic compared to the others. Anyone know a good site that will tell the differences? Every DVD has a way to choose which type of audio system you have and I'm not sure what to choose. Thanks so much to all you theater buffs.

In answer to your question, your Dolby Pro-Logic is not the same as Dolby Digital 5.1. Pro-Logic only uses 4 channels (front-left, front-right, center, and mono surrounds) while 5.1 uses 5 channels and a LFE (sub). DTS is similar to Dolby Digital but does not compress the bitrate as much as Dolby does. Therefore, you may notice some better defining channel seperation and LFE with DTS.
For your system, you should choose Dolby 2.0. The surround channel is extracted from the soundtrack (as is the center channel).
Just my $0.02 worth.

Theoretically, you should be choosing Dolby Digital 2.0 for optimum sound if using a Dolby Pro Logic receiver.
