Has anyone had problems with their S503D? I was watching Gladiator yesterday with no problems. Today I tried to turn on my DVD player and it won't turn on. The light changes from red to green for about three seconds, then it goes back to red and nothing happens. Tried unplugging it for about ten minutes, then trying again. Didn't help. Has anyone encountered this? Does anyone have any advice? I'd really appreciate it.

I did have this happen once - unplugged it for about 10 minutes, plugged it back in - everything has been working fine for about 9 months...

Note: I have the Sony 550

Yup, that worked. Left it unplugged for about an hour and that seems to have solved the problem. Maybe I just had a power surge or something. Thanks.

D@mn, still having problems. The player is now shutting down during the middle of a movie. It stays on for longer and longer each time, but it STARTS OVER each time. Like it has been unplugged or something. Has anyone encountered this with a Sony player? Can I take this back to Best Buy, or should I talk to Sony about it? I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Have you had it less than 30 days? If so, exchange it. If not, talk to Sony.

No, unfortunately I got it in March. So it's still under warranty, but only just barely. I guess I'll have to call Sony and find out where to send it in. Man, that sucks.

Are you sure the plug isn't loose or something. Maybe it's overheating - is the thermostat set too warm? Or maybe it's so cold you're getting condensation inside the machine?

Do you have it in a closed cabinet? It might be getting too hot. Try leaving the door open of the cabinet so it does not get to hot.

Hmm....I'm pretty sure the plug is secure, but I'll double check. I know it's secure into the surge protector. The temp should be okay, around 72 degrees in there most of the time. It's in an entertainment center on a shelf that goes over my TV. The space it sits in is about six inches high, with the player being about 3-4 inches high. Both the front and back of the shelf are totally open. Well, the back has that cardboardy stuff on it to close it up somewhat. But the front is open all the time. There's no door or anything. It's really weird.

Sounds like you have a defected DVD player. return it, and exchange for another one ( if your warranty hasn't expired.
