I think you need to give us some more info - what receiver do you have, what DVD player do you have.
You also seemed to be a little confused. If you receiver is pro logic only then you will not get Dolby Digital Surround. You receiver needs to be capable of decoding the DD 5.1 signal passed to it from the DVD player.
Please be more specific and if possible give the info asked for above.

You will get surround sound, but it will not have discrete left and right surrounds. Pro Logic uses a matrixed rear effects channel that sends a single bandwidth limited signal to both of the rear speakers.
DD 5.1 (or DTS) receivers have full bandwidth stereo rear channels. This allows you to tell not only that something is coming from behind but also behind and to the left/ right.
With Pro Logic, you will be getting a surround effect, but it will not be as satisfying as a DD5.1, DTS, (or the newer EX or DTS ES formats with even more discrete channels.)
So, it's up to you whether the monaural surround channel will work for you.
Regardless, even with Pro Logic, the improvements in both video and sound quality make DVD well worthwhile.
Hope that helps!
